Guilford conjured their first 5-0 start since 2019 and earned their 15th consecutive win against a USA South Athletic Conference (USAS) opponent. This win also becomes historic for GC as it is now the largest margin of victory with 59, breaking the previous record of 55 against Meredith College in the home opener. Guilford also matched their season high in assists at 16.
Key contributors for the Quakers included Furr with 16 points, ten rebounds, three steals, and a block, Hall ended with a dozen points paired with five boards, and McMillan scored 11 points, snatched six boards, was squeaky clean on the free throw line, and was 4-7 from the field. Bayer and Perry added their contributions with ten points a piece as well as Perry’s ten rebounds and three steals.

Statistical leaders for the Pride were Azuria Barrino with team-high eight points, five rebounds, four blocks, and three steals, Nataya Atwater, who finished with eight points and two steals, and Meah Brooks with five points, team-high nine rebounds, and two steals.

GC dominated the first quarter, building an impressive 33-2 lead over Greensboro. The Quakers opened strong with two early three-pointers by Julianna Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.) set career highs with six assists and seven steals, while Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists, achieving season highs in both assists and rebounds, to ignite a 10-0 run. McMillan controlled the paint, scoring multiple layups, and Perry contributed key offensive rebounds and points. Guilford’s defense forced numerous turnovers, converting them into fast-break opportunities. Furr and Hall added to the scoring with a three-pointer and free throws. Greensboro struggled offensively, managing only two points on free throws, as Guilford’s relentless defense stifled their efforts.

In the second quarter, the Quakers extended its lead with balanced offense and strong defense, exposing Greensboro for fastbreak points. Perry and McMillan sparked early momentum with steals and layups, while Scott added a three-point play. Bayer and Furr contributed with layups off turnovers, and Hannah Ajayi (Chapel Hill, N.C.) hit a late three-pointer. Despite Barrino scoring for Greensboro in the closing seconds, Guilford led 56-11 at halftime. Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.) stepped up with scoring and defensive stops as Walter facilitated fastbreaks with assists. The Pride struggled to keep pace amid turnovers and missed chances at the cup.

The second half saw a mix of turnovers and defensive efforts from both teams. Greensboro scarcely capitalized on fast breaks and inside scoring but struggled with missed shots and fouls. Guilford maintained control, converting turnovers into points and extending their lead with strong defensive plays, including blocks and steals. Key contributors included Massenburg, who made a steal and assisted on an Ajayi three-pointer, and Hall, who added a jumper and free throw. Furr’s offensive rebounds and Ajayi’s three-pointer further solidified Guilford’s dominance, securing their decisive victory.

Guilford will meet their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent on Tuesday, November 26th as they face Averett University at their place. Tip-off is slated for 7 PM.
