Women’s Basketball Storms Past Livingstone, 79-41
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team cruised to a 79-41 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears in non-conference action on Friday night at Fleming Gymnasium.
The Spartans were led by junior guard Jaila Lee, who tied for the team lead with 13 points while hauling seven rebounds and notching an assist as well as a steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lee opened the scoring with a four-point play for the Spartans to get an 11-0 run started. Livingstone countered with a 9-2 run to close out the first quarter trailing UNCG by a pair, 13-11.
The second quarter saw the Spartans score six consecutive points on three buckets to extend their advantage to 19-9. Leading 20-13, UNCG went on an 11-2 surge to take a 31-15 lead. The Spartans carried a 31-23 lead into the break after the Blue Bears sank three shots, including two three-pointers, to end the half.
The Spartans outscored the Blue Bears 22-10 in the third frame to gain a commanding 20-point lead, 53-33, after three quarters. Jayde Gamble and Nia Howard paced UNCG during the stanza with five and four points, respectively.
UNCG continued to on pile points in the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Blue Bears 26-8 on the way to securing the 79-41 victory. Kelly Boyle buried her second and third three-point shots on the night with 5:43 and 1:15 remaining to ensure the Spartans’ fifth win of the season.
