Grimsley Whirlies got the job done, and they finished off the Hough Huskies, as we break down the Friday Night Football Finishes…With less than a minute to go, Grimsley got a TD pass from Faizon Brandon to DJ Howerton, and the Whiriles(14-0) scored to go up by a TD, and then the defense held, and the Whirlies got the win, to move on to next week’s West Regional Final game at Grimsley HS, versus Weddington(14-0)…
More on the Grimsley Whiriles exciting win coming up from Mike Fanning real soon, here at the site…Mike Fanning Grimsley-Hough article now up here at GreensboroSports.com…
On the Dudley-West Charlotte game, it was a true West Charlotte Shocker…The WC Lions came into Dudley’s Tarpley Stadium, on the James Benson Dudley High School campus, and the team from Charlotte went home a winner…West Charlotte will now face the Hickory Red Tornadoes(14-0) next Friday night, for the 3-A West Regional Title…West Charlotte moves on at (11-2), and for the Dudley Panthers, their season ends at (13-1)…
Tough way to see it end for Dudley…The Panthers finishe at (13-1) and the game final on Friday night was:
West Charlotte 39, Dudley 13…This game was pretty much all West Charlotte…The Lions’ sophomore QB Jamouri Nichols was seen to be threat coming in, but seeing him in person, seeing was REALLY believing…That kid was very productive back there at quarterback for West Charlotte…
On Dudley’s first possession of the ballgame, the Panthers could not get anything going, and they were forced to punt, and three downs they were out, and the Dudley punter, Andre Cummings took a very low snap that was bouncing along the ground, and he took the ball and he tried to punt it, but it never got going, and the punt was blocked…Not only was the Dudley punt blocked, Micah Walker picked up the blocked punt and he ran it back for a West Charlotte touchdown…Before we could blink and eye, West Charlotte was up, 7-0…
Then West Charlotte went up 14-0 on a short run, and that TD for WC was set up after a huge pass play from WC QB Jamouri Nichols to his WR Donte Nicholson…Nichols to Nicholson, and West Charlotte was in business…West Charlotte would not stop there as they went to take a 21-0 lead over the Panthers, before Dudley could score…
Dudley picked up a TD just before the end of the first half, when Brayden Jeffries connected with WR CJ Neely, on a 16-yard TD pass…Dudley got the ball to start off the second half, but they could get nothing going, and West Charlotte did not let off the gas pedal…The Lions continued to attack, and the Dudley Defense was getting worn down, and before we knew it, Dudley trailed West Charlotte 27-7…
The Dudley Panthers did find the end zone one more time on this night, and the Panthers had Antonio Lee, in there running the Panthers’ offense, during the late-game sequence…Lee handed the ball off to backup RB Rayshawn Wilson, and Wilson was ready and willing, and the next thing you know, Rayshawn Wilson is on his way to end zone, with a running touchdown…
The scoreboard points for Dudley were few and far in-between, with Dudley scoring one TD right before halftime, and the other Dudley score, game with just minutes/seconds left to play in the contest….
39-13 West Charlotte Lions, and I for one, am still shocked…But sometimes, say every once-and-awhile, you see a game like this one, where the #8 Seed comes in and ROCKS the higher seeded team…Dudley Panthers, a #5 Seed, and they lined ’em up there on Friday night…West Charlotte was just better than Dudley…WC had a military-style teacher who loved to the students get help from the top instructers…
West Charlotte was just too agressive, too disciplined, too ready, and Ready They WERE for the Dudley Panthers…REMAX Revolution Play of the Game might well have been the Antonio Lee QB run for positive yardage, and going with the Player of the Game from REMAX Revolution…POG could well be CJ Neely who got the Panthers going, on offense….So Player of the Game, going with Neely right now…Got to tear down the usual look and look at Dudley from the losing side of Christmas….
This was not Dudley’s night, and there many penalties for all kinds of things, but don’t those stop everything, because it was a known fact all night long that it will be hard for the locals to win if they don’t stick together and stay on the same page…It was about many things for the West Charlotte Lions, and it is just one night, but this West Charlotte team, may be one of those teams of Destiny…
Dudley done, and I’m sure it won’t be fun checking in those fellas in the the Pop Shoppe, but they know their stuff, and would be surprised, if West Charlotte did’t lock down a Postseason Football Playoff spot this January 1…
