High School Football Saturday Morning Rewind and got to say, those Grimsley Whirlies did seize the moment last night with their 35-23 comeback victory over the Weddington Warriors…Whirlie QB Faizon Brandon showed he could withstand the pressure, and Weddington did bring the wood/pressure, and let me tell you, Brandon meet that Challenge and it was staring him right in the face…Young man was ready in the Moment…You have to have that leadership, and Faizon Brandon is a humble leader…
His receiver, Kaden Catoe proved to us why should be a Primary Target…He got open and he ran those 3 TD routes to perfection…Mitchell Summers, showed he is a Bigger than Life running back…Sure, he is small in stature, but that kid is too tough to tackle, and he is even tougher to catch, once he gets past the line of scrimmage…That kid has a motor that knows NO bounds, and his heart is the size of Texas and California combined….
And Coach Daryl Brown challenged his Grimsley Whirlies at halftime to get back out there and play “Grimsley Football”, and his kids did that with all that pressure looking them right in the eye…Most of those offensive and defensive linemen will tell you to a man, that they were not feeling pressure, they were just out there having FUN….And that is what they did….
And the Grimsley Defense, they hold off the Weddington Warriors…When the Warriors had chances to score two Touchdowns, the Grimsley Defense held Weddington to a field goal on one stand, and Weddington missed a FG on their other chance…Grimsley Defense taking 11 first half points off the board right there…And in the second half, the Grimsley Defense gave the Offense the ball back, and got Weddington and that tough RB Nick Diamond off of the field, and the Grimsley offense took over, and like it has been chronicled, Grimsley out-scored Weddington, 35-13 in the second half…
They faced the Pressure, and the Grimsley Whirlies were up to the Challenge…

MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: 5-star QB Faizon Brandon leads Grimsley to 35-23 win over No. 24 Weddington
By Zack Poff
There are just two weeks left in the 2024 high school football season but some huge games remain to be played that will play a major role in deciding the MaxPreps National Champion.
Five-star junior quarterback Faizon Brandon led Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) to a 35-23 win over No. 24 Weddington (Matthews, N.C.) to advance to the 4A state championship. After trailing 10-0 at halftime the Whirlies outscored the Warriors 35-13 in the second half to snap the defending 4A state champs 19-game win streak.
Brandon connected with Kaden Catoe for three touchdowns and Mitchell Summers sealed the win with two scores on the ground in the fourth quarter.
