Grimsley HS Football Players take home Top Honors from the 2024 High School Football Season

Top Honors coming the way of two Grimsley High School football players that were part of the NCHSAA 2024 4-A State Championship Team, and these two have been racking up numerous awards along the way, but they both hit the Top Honors list and we wanted to go back and recognize them for all that they did this past season, and this really brings a lot of positive attention to the Grimsley High School Football program, and to Grimsley High School and all the Whirlies have been striving to accomplish…..

Bryce Davis and Faizon Brandon did very well, and here is what they did in the major postseason department…..

Racked up 125 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 27 sacks and forced five fumbles for 4A state champs.

Faizon Brandon, JR. QB from Grimsley High School, and University of Tennessee commit, was named the Gatorade North Carolina Football Player of the Year.

At the time of Brandon’s selection, the 6-foot-4, 202-pound junior quarterback had passed for 2,159 yards, 27 touchdowns and just one interception this past season, leading the Whirlies (13-0) to the Class 4A postseason quarterfinals.
Faizon finished with 2,816 yards passing, with 35 TDs/2 INTs/77.1% Pass Completion Rate…..

He is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 prospect in his class by 24/7 Sports, completed 76.3 percent of his throws and averaged 12.7 yards per attempt through 13 games. He also rushed for 564 yards and eight scores, averaging 9.9 yards per carry.

Brandon also works hard in the classroom maintaining a weighted GPA of 3.83.

Faizon Brandon has volunteered locally on behalf of the Under the Bridge Project to support the homeless as well as with the Kiser Middle School Tiger Mentoring Program. He has also donated his time to both school cleanup and flag football youth service projects in addition to serving as a DJ Reader NFL Football Kids Camp instructor. “Faizon Brandon is always in total control of the game,” said Tiesuan Brown, head coach of Mount Tabor High School. “He never sweats the small things, and he’s a great leader on and off the field.”

Since 1985, the Gatorade Player of the Year award has recognized the nation’s most elite high school student-athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field. Gatorade awards each winner with a $1,000 grant to be donated to a local or national youth sports organization of the athlete’s choice.

In each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, one Gatorade State Player of the Year is awarded in 12 sports. From this pool of state winners, 12 Gatorade National Players of the Year are then selected.
