Looking for the good food last Saturday night, and just about every location that could hit the spot, and cure the hunger, was shut down and CLOSED!!!!!
(Sort of a slow Sports Day, but we have some info that will make your Grandmother jump up and shout.)
Saturday Night was right for food fightin’, but there was no place open in sighten…Just about every stop up and down Battleground Avenue turned out to be a Dead End. The snow was going to make business SLOW, no matter what…
Slow is a kind way of describing the traffic out there on Battleground Avenue on Saturday night…It was just about dead, and you had the following places closed or locked up, and not OPEN for business:
CLOSED…Herbie’s Place, Mythos Grill, Oak Crest Restaurant, KFC, JJ’s/Jimmy John’s Subs/Sandwich Shop, the door was locked up at Bojangles, and I do believe even Krispy Kreme Doughnuts was shut down…
Got to check on one MORE place and it turned out to be a true Gold Mine…Nothing finer in Caroliner, than Jake’s Diner on that cold and snowy Saturday night…Jake’s turned out to be, “The Bomb.Com”…..
They were serving up some of the best food in the South, and I bet you “The Mouth of the South”, Jimmy Hart, who is now 81 years old, I bet you even Jimmy would have liked that Jake’s Diner, on a Saturday night…
Looked over the menu, and the Saturday special caught my attention…Well at first I was ready to go for what I thought was the Saturday Special, but what I was seeing turned out to be the Sunday Special, because I was reading the menu wrong…But, the price was right…And the Saturday Night Special, turned out to be a real special…
On this Saturday Night Special at Jake’s Diner, you get/got Two(2) Pork Chops, Two(2) Sides and I took the Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, plus the Fried Okra, and you also got a choice of Bread, and A Drink…On the bread, I chose the Cornbread, and for the Drink, I grabbed the Iced Tea…So there it is when it shows up on your plate, Two nice and tender large Pork Chops, Two sides that are hot Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, plus the Fried Okra and those side portions were nice and large, while you got the Cornbread to eat along with your food, and the Iced Tea to wash it all down…No extra charge for the Tea, it was all part of the Saturday Night Special…Man, those were some good eats, and to my advantage, they threw in an extra piece of that tasty Cornbread for good measure…
With most of the other restaurants on LOCKDOWN there on Saturday night on the Battleground Avenue stretch/strip, I was able to find a Gold Mine there at the Jake’s Diner, right near the Oak Crest Restaurant, and that Jake’s Diner food was heading my way at a good price too…The Saturday Special was listed at $10.17, but by the time the kind lady at Jake’s factored in the discount, the cost was just $9.15 and that included the beverage(Tea)…Walking away with Two Large and lean Pork Chops, Two Excellent Sides/Mashed Potatoes-Gravy and Fried Okra, the Two pieces of Cornbread and the glass of Iced Tea, with FREE refills, and that my friends is a Gold Mine…
Gonna have to put that Jake’s Diner on the Saturday Night Hunger Helper List, and get back in there MORE times…I think those Pork Chops are going to be calling my name….And the FREE tea, to along with your meal…Just a real special Saturday Night, enjoying that Saturday Night Special, at the Jake’s Diner on Battleground Avenue, and right beside the Fidelity Bank, and also beside the Jimmy John’s…
This Jake’s Diner was a Front Liner Diner and on that cold Saturday Night in January, it was a true Gold Miner, and there was nothing Finer in Caroliner…..
