UNCG Expands Communications Team with Award-Winning Greensboro Journalist, Brian Clarey
GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of North Carolina Greensboro welcomes Brian Clarey, longtime Greensboro journalist, as a media relations specialist within the University Communications team.
Clarey brings three decades of journalism experience to the role. His byline has appeared in more than a dozen publications, including the Greensboro News & Record, Our State, O Henry, Indy Week, the Rhinoceros Times, the Daily Beast and Gambit; he has also served as managing editor of Yes Weekly and, most recently, as publisher and executive editor at Triad City Beat.
“After a career in journalism, I’m so happy to land at UNCG,” Clarey says. “I’m hoping that my experience and skill set can help advance the university’s mission.”
Clarey will be a pivotal team member as the liaison between UNCG and media members across North Carolina and beyond. As a former journalist himself, he’s uniquely positioned to flourish in this new role.
“We are so excited to welcome Brian to the UNCG community and watch him thrive in his new position,” said Myla Edmond, UNCG’s Interim Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications. “I’m confident that Brian will make an immediate impact. He’s already familiar with the industry and local media landscape, and his writing ability is undeniable.”
Throughout his career, Clarey has won state and national journalism awards for column writing, sports writing, profiles and features. He also authored “The Anxious Hipster and Other Barflies I’ve Known.”
