The four guards working out front did an excellent job tonight for the NG Nighthawks…Malena DeLisa, Olivia Bayer, Cara Tripett, and Leena McField…Faith Sang did a nice job of holding down the post inside, and she kept the ball alive on the offensive boards on numerous occasions…Leena was sharp as always with her ball handling, shooting, and just a matter of fact being in the Right Place at the Right Time….Malena DeLisa might just be one of the best small rebounding guards in our state, and She Is…That kid can go get it, and when you look up, she is so many times coming out of the clump of players near the basket, with the basketball…You see her hitting the floor and just going all out for loose balls and the 50-50 chances that tend to be going her way…Just sheer all-out hustle by little, but very strong and tough DeLisa…If she is on your team, you should be smiling at the end of the day, because she is going to make you a winner….Will tell this, Northern is going to miss that little kid next year…She is fighter and a winner…Northern also got a big from the shooting of Cara Tripett and Olivia Bayer…Together they combined for 20 points, and Tripett hit a buzzer-beater shot for three to close out one of the quarters, and that shot was a work of art…Also four threes from Tripett and Bayer, as they both hit two each from long distance…Again, good minutes from Sarah Moore and from Faith Sang in the post for Northern Guilford, as they were doing a good job of keeping Grimsley off balance when it came to grabbing and controlling the rebounds….There were times in the second when Leena McField just took the game over….She would dribble in-and-out, and just about wear out the Grimsley defenders….Leena kept Grimsley on their toes, and made the Whirlies work extra at all times…NG also got some very board work from Leena McField….Grimsley didn’t seem to have same flow going this week, that the Whirlies had working last week, at home vs. Page…It was a struggle at times for Grimsley’s two key guards, Shyla Simms and Sanaya Blount…NG out-scored Grimsley, 17-5 in the third quarter, and Grimsley looked at times like they would not score at all in the third period…Whirlies got their first Third Quarter on a free throw from Alyssa Graves with just 1:38 to play in the third period…Much of the Whirlies’ lack of success was coming because of their missed shots, but many of the misses, were due to Northern Guilford playing top notch defense…This was a battle their at Northern Guilford on Friday night, and the Northern Guilford Nighthawks left out of there, victorious coming off the field of battle…Or maybe we should say, “The McField of Battle”….

MORE on and from the NG games coming up…
For the Northern Guilford boys, Josh Echenique was driving to the basket, and he was finishing his shots…Layup, after layup, after layup, coming off of Drive, after Drive, after Drive, and like we are saying to you, Echenique was finishing his shots…He finished the game with 21 points to top all scorers, at least that is what had him for…Twenty-one points, and this kid is money-in-the-bank, on a Friday afternoon/evening….Josh had nine points in the first half, and he added in twelve(12) more points in the second half…Echenique is a very confident driver and shooter…Echenique can play, and he plays good defense too…Led my Echenique and Crews, NG built a four point lead after one quarter, but the Nighthawks extended their lead to 8 points at halftime, and after a large third quarter, the NG Nighthawks were up by 14 points going into the final frame, and in the fourth period was when Grimsley started bringing their depths of their bench, and the Nighthawks lead ended up being 22 points at game’s end…You go figure that Echenique and Chance Crews from NG had over half of the ‘Hawks points…Sixty points for Northern, and over half of those points were coming from Crews and Echenique, with their total at the half good for 35 points in the game, and Grimsley challenged Northern to play Straight-up and Northern came and got it, and in the Second Half, NG took their lead and extended it, or we need to find out how NG is tearing it down on some nights, and Back On the same…..For NG, very good guard effort in this contest, with kids like Will Thomas, Christian Davis, Caleb Baptist, Aiden Crews and MORE…All of those young men, out there getting done the right way by the Whirlies…Isaiah Whitsett and Faizon Brandon were two of the few, that were really getting done for the Whirlies…Like to see them stay out there, and give Grimsley a chance to succeed…Brandon and Whitsett were on the button for Grimsley, but the button has to be open where all the players from Grimsley are in on the take…Make-it, Take-it, but no that is from another show….NG was getting too much of a total team effort tonight, but Grimsley was getting the team effort, it just wasn’t what the doctor ordered….
***********A Special Thanks to Patrick from the Northern Guilford Middle School football team tonight, as Patrick helped haul my equipment to the car, at the end of the game/night…Only having to make one trip out is a real Blessing and thanks again, to Patrick for his help…Some good kids out there, and he is one of the good ones….***********
