NG Scoring:Leena McField 24 points, Malena DeLisa 18, Cara Trippett 7, Olivia Bayer 2, Faith Sang 2…

Early 10-point lead for Northwest, and for Northwest Guilford, Sophie Montana was shooting like a machine…She had three early 3’s…By halftime, Northern Guilford had found a way back into this game, and we were all tied up at 26-all….Northern found a little bit of a cushion in the third period, as the Nighthawks forged ahead by 5 points, heading into the fourth quarter….In the second half, Northern would go up by say six points, but Northwest Guilford would come roaring right back, and the Vikings would never quit…Northern was getting several hard earned key buckets from Leena McField, and she was not only getting big baskets, she was also grabbing key rebounds that were coming on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor…In the last minute of the contest, Northern got two HUGE buckets from senior guard Malena DeLisa…She drove to the basket and connected on two-foot floater, that moved NG on top, but on the other end, Sophie Montana hit one of two Free Throws that tied the game at 53-53, and that set up the last second heroics from Malena DeLisa again, as she found Leena McField all bottled up on the NG offensive end, but DeLisa found a way/route that allowed her to get to the NG basket, and she put up another one of those DeLisa Family patented floating layups, and the ball went through the net, and the made basket from Malena DeLisa allowed NG to take a 55-53 lead, but NWG had more chance for a look, but the Vikings only had one second left on the Game Clock, and that would not be nearly enough time for Northwest to get up a Game-Winning Three Point shot, so the game is closed out by Northern, and the Nighthawks get the nice home Win, in the Conference Tournament Championship Game…NG got the hard dog work from McField and DeLisa, but Cara Trippett came on to hit several key threes for NG, while Oliva Bayer and Faith Sang among others, were doing the Nighthawk complimentary work, that does often go unnoticed….That last shot by DeLisa won it for NG, and Northwest had some great runs in this game, but the Vikings came up three points short…NWG got excellent support help for Montana and Apple, and the NWG help was forming with Grace Henline and Georgia Lewis giving much support for the Vikes like Montana and Apple..Northern won it and this was one of the Games of the Week, for the collector’s tank….

SWG was down by 20 points in this boys games at times, but the SWG Cowboys just kept coming back….I said more than once on the radio broadcast that if SWG could cut the NG lead down to 7 or 8 points, then at that point, SWG could get back into this game, and that is exactly what the SWG Cowboys did…I was also saying on that GreensboroSports Radio broadcast that Brayden Gatling should be giving the SWG Cowboys more than he was giving them…SWG got just five points from Gatling in the first half, but with the game getting dire, and the Cowboys needing help, Gatling started finding ways to get Open, and by doing so, it allowed SWG to get to the basket, and after Northern was leading by sixteen points at halftime, SWG found the way to get back on track and the Cowboys were able to attack the rack, and not look back…SWG out-scored NG 24-10 in the fourth quarter, and with that SWG plan working to perfection, the Southwest Guilford Cowboys were back in the game at 70-70, and the Cowboys and the Nighthawks were heading to Overtime…This boys game had been a battle all night long, with SWG using Gatling and Kamar Billie-Fanning to keep them in the same zip code early, and SWG hoping their top players would be able to overcome the speed and quickness of the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…In the second half, as the SWG Cowboys were mounting their comeback, Brayden Gatling and Christian Johnson became like grown men, as they took the bull by the horns, and made good on all of their key shots…And the bodies from both teams were hitting the floor…The fightback we saw from SWG was highly evident, and if you want to beat the #1 seed it is going to take a lot of growing through things, and that is what SWG did so well in this SWG at NG boys basketball game…SWG is a very young team, but these kids are fast learners, and they got the message about not giving up, and as for SWG they will have to be very careful as they will hit the roads running when the playoffs start next week…We will try to get some more details up here on Saturday afternoon….People are starting to talk about this Southwest Guilford team, and what it takes to put the Cowboys away..
