UNCG Softball’s Gardner & Chartrand Earn Weekly SoCon Honors
SoCon Announces Weekly Softball Player & Pitcher of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team saw freshman Hadley Gardner earn The Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week and senior Jorde Chartrand named Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
The Spartans went 4-0 this weekend and extended their win streak to five games with two wins over Fairfield, including a, 4-2, 10-inning win and a 6-0 shutout. On Saturday, UNCG later defeated Charleston Southern, 13-1, in five innings and 6-1. The 6-0 win over the Stags was the Spartans’ fourth shutout of the season.
Gardner was one of five Spartans with a .500 or higher batting average this weekend, pacing the team with a .545 hitting clip. The freshman went 6-for-11 with six runs scored, four home runs, eight RBI, one walk and no strikeouts. She reached a total of 18 bases. She had a 1.636 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage. In the field, Gardner had six putouts and four assists.
The Winchester, Tennessee, native brought her season home run total to five after hitting four homers in as many games. Two of the four were during the Spartans’ 13-1 win over Charleston Southern which included a season-high of four RBI in the game.

Chartrand tossed a total of 14.0 innings this weekend, as the Spartans went 4-0. The senior appeared in two games and had two game starts. She gave up seven hits and one run with no earned runs in her time in the circle. Chartrand struck out 11 total batters, with seven of them coming in the 8.0 innings she threw in the 4-2 win over Fairfield. She gave up just one extra base hit this weekend and kept opponents to a .163 batting average.
Chartrand also was impressive at the plate. The Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada native averaged .385 (5-for-13), scored two runs and had three RBI reaching 11 total bases. She had a .846 slugging percentage and a .429 on-base percentage. Chartrand also crushed two home runs this weekend to bring her season total to four.

The Spartans return home to host Radford for a single game on Wednesday, March 19 at the UNCG Softball Stadium with a first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m.
All regular season softball home games are free admission. The concessions at UNCG Softball Stadium are now open. Bringing in outside food is not permitted and pets are not allowed into the stadium.
