Softball Claims Series Sweep Over Wofford
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team claimed the series sweep over the Wofford Terriers on Saturday after securing game two, 6-1, and walking-off game three, 9-8, in eleven innings in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action at UNCG Softball Stadium.
After going 2-0 on Saturday, the Spartans now stand 26-10 overall and 4-2 in conference.
GAME ONE: WOF 1, UNCG 6
Both teams stayed scoreless for the first two innings of play.
After the Spartans left two Terriers stranded in the top of the third, UNCG took a 2-0 advantage in the bottom half.
Samantha Beck launched an RBI double to center field to send Kaylyn Belfield home from second, 1-0.
Jorde Chartrand added another RBI double to bring Beck in for a 2-0 lead.
Wofford got on the board in the fifth inning for the visiting team’s only run of the game with an RBI double, making it a one-run game, 2-1.
The Spartans tallied two more runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
Betsy Eatmon singled through the left side to score Beck from third, 3-1.
In the next at bat, Hadley Gardner reached third on a dropped fly ball to right field to score Eatmon, making it 4-1 Spartans.
UNCG tacked on two more runs for a five-run advantage in the sixth inning.
Beck reached on a fielding error by the Terriers’ shortstop to push across Chrissy Rabenold, 5-1.
Grace Loftin singled to the shortstop, scoring Belfield for the final run of the game, 6-1.
Salem Ward in the circle, behind stellar fielding from the Spartans, closed out the seventh inning for UNCG to secure the 6-1 victory.
Kaylyn Belfield led the game with three hits, going 3-for-3.
Eatmon followed closely behind with two hits.

GAME TWO: WOF 8, UNCG 9 (11 innings)
Wofford got the scoring started with three runs in the second for a 3-0 lead.
UNCG took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second.
Laney Deane reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Eatmon from third to put the Spartans on the board, 1-3.
Jessie Shipley then singled through the left side on an 0-1 count to push Gardner across, cutting the deficit to one, 2-3.
Beck doubled to center field for two RBI, bringing in Deane and Shipley to give UNCG a 4-3 lead.
Gardner secured a two-run lead for the Spartans in the third after launching her seventh career home run on an 1-0 count, 5-3.
Wofford’s Hope Ingle responded with a two-run homer in the fourth to tie the game, 5-5.
The Terriers regained the lead in the fifth with a double to left center for one RBI, 6-5.
Shipley tied the game in the seventh, 6-6, with her eighth homer of the season and 32nd of her career to send the game to extra innings.
Wofford took the lead again in the top of the 10th inning off an RBI single, 7-6.
UNCG tied the game once again when Loftin grounded out to the pitcher to score Beck, 7-7.
The Terriers responded with a double to left center in the 11th for the one-run lead, 8-7.
Deane launched her fourth homer of the season, a two-run blast to secure the 9-8 walk-off for the Spartans.

Chartrand led the Spartans in the circle with five strikeouts.
Beck led the first game of the day with two RBI.
Beck and Belfield led with two hits apiece.

Gardner, Shipley and Deane each launched a homer in the second game.
