Hoppers led 2-0, 2-1, 5-1, 6-1, 7-1, 7-3, 9-3, 11-3, and ended up winning the ballgame, 12-3…

Greensboro’s starting pitcher, Antwone Kelly worked three innings, where he walked two batters and he struck out six Asheville Tourists…Conversely, Juan Bello got the Opening Night call for the Tourists, and he walked six Hoppers batters and he struck out two…Six Ks/Two BBs for Kelly, but six BBs and 2 Ks for Bello…Might be the story of the game right there…Hoppers pitching was steady all night long, as the staff walked a total of Five(5) Tourists, but Greensboro pitching struck out fifteen(15) Tourists…Asheville’s pitching unit doubled the Hoppers walks, as they issued 10 free passes(Walks)…Asheville with more walks(10) than strikeouts(9)…The Greensboro Grasshoppers scored one of their runs, due to a Bases Loaded Walk, from Asheville’s Juan Bello…

Duce Gourson was a prime benefactor of the Tourists giving up the crucial walks, with Gourson walking twice, and he scored after each of his walks…Gourson scored four of the Hoppers’ twelve runs, and he drove in a run…
Gourson 1-3/2 BBs/4 Runs/RBI…Omar Alfonzo went 2-4, with a very Big Double, and he drove in two runs, and he scored two runs..He also drew One Walk…No Long Gone Homers for the Hoppers in this game, but they come with up Four Doubles…Esmerlyn Valdez went 2-4/BB/Run/2 RBI…Javier Rivas was 1-3/Double/BB/2 RBI…Keiner Delgado was 2-4/Double/BB/2 Runs…Jesus Castillo goes 2-5/Double/Run/RBI…Shalin Polanco 0-2/2 BBs/Run/RBI…Lonnie White Jr. 1-3/BB/Run/RBI…PJ Hilson 0-4/BB/RBI…

Very busy run-scoring night from Gourson and that sure was a big Double off the bat of Omar Alfonso…Grasshoppers JP Massey worked two solid innings in relief to pick up the win…He went two innings, with 2 BBs/2 Ks/2 Runs/1 Hit…Massey measured his opposition and did all he needed to do to pick up the victory, with his work in the middle innings…The Hoppers got very steady bullpen support from Jack Carey, Julian Bosnic, and Landon Tomkins in relief to preserve the strong effort that the offense was producing…Four total innings from Carey, Bosnic, and Tomkins and they gave up 0 runs on 1 hit, and the relievers combined to strike out seven Tourists…

The walks the Hopper hitters were getting and those Four Doubles made for some very efficient offense from the Greensboro side…The two pitchers from Asheville that stand out like a sore thumb are the Tourists’ starter Bello, who gave up 6 runs on 5 hits, with 6 BBs/2 Ks, and his time was for Two Innings…The Asheville reliever Jose Guedez worked 3 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, with 2 BBs/3 Ks…

The Tourists with just 4 hits, and they got 3 of their hits from Walker Janek…Janek went 3-4/Double/Run/2 RBI…Yanek, a First Round pick by the Houston Astros, out of Sam Houston, in 2024…The other Asheville hit on Friday night was a Triple off the bat of Drew Vogel..Vogel, 1-3, also drew a Walk, and scored a Run…The Hopper pitchers pretty much put a wrap on the rest of the Tourists batters…But, leadoff man Joseph Sullivan was able to reach base four times with 2 BBs and 2 HBP…Overall Sullivan, was 0-1 with a strikeout, but Sullivan kept finding a way to reach base, most of the night…

So, with Ten Walks and Four Doubles, the Greensboro Grasshoppers found their way, and got it done at First National Bank Field on Friday night…
