Southeast Guilford HS Athletic Director Shawyn Newton named Guilford County Schools Employee of the Month for April

SOUTHEAST HIGH AD LEAVES LASTING IMPACT
from the Guilford County Schools website….

Guilford County – Across our 120 schools, we have staff members who choose to spend their entire careers in the same building. These educators interact with multiple generations of families, cultivating a positive community and long-lasting relationships.

At Southeast High, Coach Shawyn Newton is that educator. With a 30+ year career spent continually at Southeast, he has witnessed families grow throughout the years. From stepping up to serve as Athletic Director to teaching horticulture classes, Newton is the man to get things done. It is no surprise that he earned the title of Employee of the Month for April, with a multitude of nominations pouring in.

“Cars run on Gas. Southeast High runs on Newton,” says Southeast High teacher Michael Tidwell in one of several nominations for Newton. “He is everywhere doing everything all the time during his 30+ year career. 150 words cannot list all he does for the school and community. Coach lives, eats, sleeps and breathes Southeast High (Aggie Pride too!). No job is too big or too small. He will help you get it done and when you can’t, he will do it himself (probably with some of the FFA Students who love him too). His picture will be in the Southeast Falcon Hall of Fame under Dedication, Perseverance, Service and Excellence. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of recognition than Coach Newton (or who hates it more to be in the spotlight, which makes this nomination even more fun!) He did his tour in Iraq to keep us safe during his career here too. He is the Best of the Best.”

Newton was surprised with the news of his nomination in the Southeast media center, surrounded by students and fellow educators—including his wife who also works at the school. While he may be retiring at the end of this year, we know that he will leave a lasting impact and remain a pillar of the community.

Newton will receive a $50 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of April, his photo will be displayed at the district’s central offices, at Southeast High and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
