Ruffner Takes First, UNCG Track Concludes Solid Weekend at Two Meets

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s & women’s track teams competed at two meets this weekend. Spartans were sent to the Duke Invitational and the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic.

Duke Invitational
Two Spartans clocked in personal bests in the Duke Invitational. In the 800-meter run, Andrew Hamilton clocked in a personal best time of 1:52.11, taking 22nd place out of 100 competitors. Samuel Barnard matched Hamilton’s time of 1:52.11 for his best time this season and took first in his section.

Evan Pena took home 34th place out of 79 competitors in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:46.99. He finished second in his section. Luke Ward clocked in a personal best time of 14:57.11, while Colin Keck ran the event for the first time.

Vicky Sosa finished 57th out of 87 in the 5000-meter run clocking in a season-best time of 18:02.54.

Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic
Twelve Spartans clocked in personal bests at the Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic, hosted by the University of Lynchburg.

Logan Ruffner, who ran the 1500-meter event for the first time, took home first place with a time of 4:03.92.

Glodi Mvovi ran personal bests in the 800-and 1500-meter runs. He finished 25th out of 96 competitors in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.99. He also clocked in a time of 4:08.89, good for 10th out of 64 competitors in the 1500-meter run.

Spencer Connick placed fourth out of 20 competitors in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:57.28. He also clocked in a personal best time of 4:17.18 in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 26th place.

Pierson Guerrant was the runner up in the 5000-meter run, clocking in a personal best time of 14:50.35.

From the women’s squad, Kaitlyn Harrison clocked in a personal best time of 19:26.41 in the 5000-meter run. Her time placed her fourth out of 23 competitors.

Emma Berrier and Lillian Douglass placed in the top 10 in the 5000-meter invitational run. Berrier finished with a personal best time of 18:13.06, placing sixth out of 21 competitors. Lillian finished in ninth place with her time of 18:19.44 in her debut of the event. Tenley Douglass followed in 10th place with a personal best time of 18:24.53.

Up next
UNCG will take some time off before competing in the Aggie Classic from Friday, May 2 to Saturday, May 3, hosted by NC A&T at the Marcus T. Johnson Track.

The Spartans will also send select individuals to the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 4 in Durham, North Carolina, back at the Morris Williams Stadium.
