GREENSBORO, N.C. – After enduring three consecutive rain delays at the end of game one, the Guilford softball team (16-24, 7-15 ODAC) fell to the Roanoke College Maroons, 6-3, despite collecting 11 hits and several standout individual performances. In game two, the Quakers struggled to find their footing, falling 9-0 in a run-rule loss during a Senior Day Saturday at Haworth Field.
Game One:
Lindsay Gedro (8-9) was awarded the win as she threw a complete game, allowing 11 hits and three earned runs. Elizabeth Eller (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) (0-2) had her second start for the Quakers and was tacked with the loss in 0.1 innings while surrendering two earned runs. Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) came in for relief to pitch 3.2 innings, giving up seven hits and four earned runs before Abbey Whelan (Gaithersburg, Md.) delivered a strong close to the game, tossing three scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.
The Maroons jumped out early with a three-run first inning, capitalizing on a bases-loaded double from Haleigh Vaughan. Guilford answered back quickly in the bottom of the first when Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) doubled and Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) followed with a two-run homer, her third of the season, to cut the deficit to 3-2. Roanoke tacked on insurance runs in the second, third, and fifth innings, extending their lead to 6-2. Guilford had several opportunities throughout the game but struggled to capitalize, leaving six runners on base.
Morgan Singletary (Laurel Hill, N.C.) had a standout day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, and a stolen base. Williams finished 2-for-3 with her two-run homer and a single, while Kaley Mitchell (Lake Waccamaw, N.C.) provided a spark in the lineup, going 3-for-4 with three singles. Corryn McCutchen (Carthage, N.C.) also added a pair of hits, finishing 2-for-3.
Carsyn Michaels went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a stolen base for the Maroons, while Vaughan drove in three runs with her first-inning double.
Game Two:
In the circle for Roanoke, Maggie McCray (11-7) showed no sign of stopping, throwing a complete-game two-hit shutout. She struck out 12 Quakers and walked just one across 5.0 innings. Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) (6-9) started but was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) over 4.2 innings. Whelan and Micah Wilson (Asheboro, N.C.) made brief relief appearances.
Roanoke jumped out early, scoring three runs in the second inning, powered by a two-RBI single from McCray and an RBI hit-by-pitch. The Maroons continued to build their lead with a solo home run by Michaels and a two-run homer by Leah Butts in the third inning, extending the advantage to 7-0. Michaels finished the game 3-for-3 with a triple, home run, walk, and an RBI, while Butts added two hits and three RBIs.
GC’s offense was limited to a single from Riley Murrish (Boerne, Texas) and another from Mitchell. Despite a few baserunners, the Quakers could not find the timely hits needed to push runs across.
Roanoke tallied 12 hits overall and sealed the run-rule victory after scoring two more runs in the fourth, including McCray’s RBI double and Butts’ RBI.
This concluded Guilford’s 2025 regular season.
