Comeback kids do it again: Pacers steal Game 1 of NBA Finals
from Sean Keane, with YardBarker.com/www.yardbarker.com
The Indiana Pacers trailed by 15 points in the fourth quarter and by nine points in the final three minutes. That’s no impediment for the Eastern Conference champions during these playoffs.
The Pacers never faltered against the relentless Oklahoma City Thunder, erasing a nine-point deficit in the final 2:52 of the game. Aaron Nesmith and Andrew Nembhard hit three-pointers, Pascal Siakam blocked a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander layup and hit a jumper of his own before Tyrese Haliburton delivered a game-winner with 0.3 seconds left to give the Pacers a stunning 111-110 victory.
from GSOSports:
This was nothing more than a “Stone Cold Stunner”….OKC Thunder up 15 points in the fourth quarter at home, and also with a 9 point lead with just under three minutes left in the game…And Oklahoma City could not finish off the Indiana Pacers…Looks like you can never put away the Pacers, as they were “The Chasers” when they were down by 15 points late in the contest, and then the became “The Erasers” as Tyrese Haliburton put a hurting on the Thunder, as his game-winning shot went down, with less than a second left in the ballgame…
It was over and the crowd, and many of us watching at home, were left in stunned silence…I felt like the Thunder had to win this series-opening game at home, and they let it slip through their hands, fingers, toes, and ear lobes…It went all the way through their hearts and souls, and the Thunder and their fans were pretty much speechless after seeing the the Three-Time ABA Champions, the Indiana Pacers steal Game One, on Thursday Night…WCW used to have the old Thursday Night Thunder Show, but last night, the Thursday Thunder was missing the mark, when the game was on the line, and the Pacers became “The Racers”, and ran past OKC with the victory…
I still relate with the Indiana Pacers from their old ABA days, with Mel Daniels, Freddie Lewis, Roger Brown, Rick Mount, George McGinnis, and Coach Slick Leonard…But this modern-day group of Indiana Pacer players may be ready to reach the pinnacle of NBA greatness…Off to good start, don’t you know…Robbie Cano, would say so, and Scott Hall would say “Yo”, if he were still with us…
From Greensboro, N.C. we have Aaron Wiggins with the NBA West Champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and last night Aaron got some good minutes in the second half for OKC, and he finished the game with 3 points, in nine minutes of action…Aaron Wiggins, son of Tim Wiggins and Mrs. Wiggins, and I apologize for not knowing Mrs. Wiggins’ first name, but I know Aaron’s two brothers, Josh(Wesleyan Christian Academy/Fayetteville State University) and Zaach(Wesleyan Christian Academy/Old Dominion University)…..Aaron Wiggins played his high school basketball at Grimsley High School, and at Wesleyan Christian Academy…College ball for Aaron, with the Maryland Terrapins….Met Aaron during an interview we did on our old Basketball in Focus Show, that we used to do up at the old Shane’s Rib Shack, and also know Aaron from his days playing the outdoor pickup basketball games at the “World Famous” Forest Valley Outdoor Basketball Court, here in the Gate City, of Greensboro, N.C.
Game Two of this Best-of-Seven NBA Championship Series will resume on Sunday night, at 8pm, on ABC TV, and that will be on ABC 45 locally….Be sure to check it out, as we have a local “Going for the Gold”……….
