INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) — the national leader and advocate for high school athletics and performing arts — will host its annual Summer Meeting Saturday through July 1 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
NFHS features a membership of 50 state high school associations and the District of Columbia, serving more than 19,800 high schools and 12 million young people in activities programs across the United States.
More than 800 attendees are expected for the meeting, including state association staff and board members, NFHS Board of Directors members, other national high school activities leaders, and additional guests. Over the four-day meeting, 38 individual workshops will be offered and spread out over six workshop sessions beginning Saturday morning and concluding the afternoon of July 1.
Attendees will collaborate on national initiatives that support and strengthen education-based activities for high school students, and the meeting will feature critical policy and legal discussions, professional development sessions, and networking opportunities for key decision-makers in high school sports and activities, among other issues.
For those unable to make the trip, free livestreaming options for three of the meeting’s marquee events – the Summer Meeting Luncheon, the National High School Hall of Fame Press Conference and the Hall of Fame Banquet – will be available on the NFHS Network. See below for more details.
The Opening Ceremony will commence the Summer Meeting festivities at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, highlighted by the National High School Spirit of Sport Award and the National High School Heart of the Arts Award presentations.
The Second General Session is slated for 9 a.m. on Sunday and will provide important updates from NFHS CEO Karissa Niehoff and Board of Directors President Bob Lombardi, who is also the executive director of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. At 2:30 p.m. that same day, a Third General Session will be held and feature a presentation by acclaimed speaker Inky Johnson.
The Fourth General Session will take place at 9:15 a.m. on June 30, and Dave Raymond, the original portrayer of the Phillie Phanatic and founder of the Mascot Hall of Fame, will present. Later that morning the National High School Hall of Fame Press Conference will be held at 11:45 a.m. before the 42nd class is honored during a banquet and induction ceremony at 6 p.m. Four outstanding athletes, three decorated coaches, one former state association administrator, one fine arts educator, one official, and one contributor make up this year’s 11-member class.
On the final day, at noon on July 1, the Summer Meeting Luncheon will include the presentation of 14 NFHS Citations to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to high school activity programs.
This will be the 12th time the Windy City has played host to the NFHS Summer Meeting, but the first time since 2018. Chicago hosted the federation’s first three summer meetings, including its inaugural gathering in 1920.
The following events can be livestreamed on the NFHS Network. Any additional press requests should be sent to NFHS Manager of Communications and Media Relations Jordan Morey at jmorey@nfhs.org.
