2025 Slate of Competition Finalized For Guilford College Volleyball

2025 Slate of Competition Finalized For Guilford Volleyball
Quakers to compete in 29 contests in first season under Head Coach Chris Miron
from Bryce Johnson, Director of Athletic Communications at The Guilford College

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Chris Miron-Era is here as the Guilford College volleyball program has finalized their 2025 schedule, announcing it on Tuesday morning.

“I am really looking forward to getting the season started,” Head Coach Chris Miron said. “I think some momentum and grit were shown at the end of last season with the team winning ten of their last 13 regular season matches. And, in seeing how we looked this past spring during off-season practices, there was excitement and anticipation in the gym as to where we could go this coming season. While we will miss some graduates from last year’s team, we also return a strong crew with experience and I feel optimistic that with the right mix of chemistry, hard work, and determination, this season could prove to be a very exciting journey for us.”

The Quakers did, in fact, catch fire in the back-half of their 2024 season, surging with ten wins over their final 13 matches of the regular season to finish 13-13 overall and 7-5 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. Then, despite the 3-1 score, they pushed the higher-seeded University of Lynchburg to the brink in a brilliant Quarterfinals clash. GC does see setter Maddi Page and middle blocker Vanessa Johnson graduate from that group, but also do return their top-three hitters, as well as six of their top seven defenders based on digs. They will need a setter to emerge and quarterback the offense, but all the other surrounding pieces are in place for potentially another strong season.

The Quakers volleyball squad will be the first team to see action in the 2025-26 athletic year by one hour as they head north to Averett University to compete at the 32nd Annual Cougar Classic on Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th, an event at which they went 2-2 at last fall. Ushering in the new season, GC will also see a new opponent as McMurry University makes the trip east from Texas to compete in Danville and battle Guilford with a projected start time of 3:00 PM. Waiting roughly 6,956 hours between the start time against Lynchburg in 2024 and McMurry to start 2025, GC’s wait will be much less before their following contest as they will battle William Peace University later on the Friday with a projected start time of 7:00 PM. Playing at least once in every season since the turn of the century, with the lone exception being the 2020 COVID year, the Quakers and Pacers have a long history and as a result, among active non-conference foes, only Greensboro College has bested Guilford more with the all-time head-to-head standing at 23-17 in favor of WPU.

Day two of the Cougar Classic is August 30th and GC will open with a late morning matchup opposite Methodist University with a projected start of 10:00 AM. Still holding the all-time edge, 17-14 over the Monarchs, MU has tilted the scales with three-straight wins over the Quakers. That Saturday will be a doubleheader day as Guilford will immediately turnaround to battle ODAC rival Roanoke College for an out-of-league dual at 12:00 PM. Taking the win each of the last two years against the Maroons, GC has consecutive wins over RC for the first time since winning three-straight in 1996 and 1997 and now look to build on that streak. With the Cougar Classic being such a large event with so many contests, it is emphasized that the actual time of first serve is subject to change based on length of preceding matches.

Entering their opening week of the regular season, Guilford opens a lengthy home stretch with nine matches in-a-row on Jack Jensen Court at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2nd playing host to Meredith College. Battling the Avenging Angels for the fifth consecutive season, the Quakers have had difficulty against Meredith recently, dropping four in-a-row, but look to turn the tides in their home opener of 2025.

Later that week, on Friday, September 5th, it will be a crosstown rivalry clash as Greensboro College visits the Ragan-Brown FieldHouse at 7:00 PM. Opening a huge rivalry weekend, the Quakers and Pride will duke it out for city bragging rights, something that Greensboro has claimed in 37 of the 61 all-time matchups, but the matchups are always tight, with 12 of the last 14 meetings going at least four sets with five battles going the distance, to five sets, in that frame.

On Saturday, September 6th, Guilford hosts Livingstone College for a doubleheader on Jack Jensen Court starting at 10:00 AM. The two matchups to be played on this day will stand as the first two encounters all-time between GC and LC.

Next up will be an ODAC-opening dual with the Cougars of Averett University on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:00 PM. AU is 3-0 over the Quakers since joining the conference in 2022, and are 27-7 all-time with the last GC win coming in 2010.

It will be back to non-conference action, playing host to Virginia University of Lynchburg on Saturday, September 13th at 1:00 PM with this standing as the first meeting all-time against the NCCAA squad.

The Quakers follow up by playing host to yet another first-time foe in Virginia Union University on Wednesday, September 17th at 6:00 PM. An NCAA Division-II foe, the Panthers went 9-19 a season ago.

Back to league action on Friday, September 19th, GC faces a difficult weekend of ODAC play starting with Virginia Wesleyan University at 6:00 PM. Having not bested the Marlins since 2016, the Quakers do have something to build off of, having claimed their first set from the eventual conference runner-ups since 2017 last fall.

Another tough foe follows with a bit of a reunion as 2024 Head Coach Kelsey Goodman and her Randolph-Macon College squad visit on Saturday, September 20th at 11:00 AM. While only one team in the ODAC has bested GC more often, the Quakers claimed their first win in Ashland since 2002 last year and hope to build off that success in their final home contest for about a month’s span.

Getting the week off from games, Guilford next hits the court on the road, on Saturday, September 27th for a tri-match in Winston-Salem. First will be Carolina University who beat GC in an impromptu meeting stemming from the aftermath of last fall’s hurricane last year, with the game opposite the tri-match hosts being played at 11:00 AM. The Quakers follow with an expected first serve of 1:00 PM against Emory & Henry College for their second encounter since the Wasps made the jump to Division-II back in 2021.

A trip to Lynchburg and an ODAC clash with Randolph College follows to open the month of October for GC, on October 1st at 6:30 PM. Taking care of business against the WildCats to the tune of a 27-9 all-time record, Guilford’s win total is the third-most of against foe all-time.

That does lead into a very difficult weekend slate as the Quakers head up to play Washington & Lee University on the road, battling the reigning ODAC champions at 6:30 PM on Friday, October 3rd. No opponent has beaten GC more often than the Generals who are 39-8 all-time.

That leads into a matchup against Bridgewater College, who is even with R-MC for third most wins over the Quakers, on Saturday, October 4th at 12:00 PM. Despite the outcomes, GC has pushed BC to five sets in two of their last three encounters including the last time they visited the Eagles in 2023.

An ODAC Quarterfinals rematch against the University of Lynchburg follows on Wednesday, October 8th at 6:00 PM. While staked to an 11-31 disadvantage all-time against the Hornets, having not beaten them since 2019, the cardinal and grey have played Lynchburg super-competitive in their last four encounters.

Back to non-conference play, Guilford heads to Charlotte for a tri-match on Friday, October 10th. First, they play Trinity Baptist College in the middle-match of day with the Florida-based NCCAA squad set to battle GC at 1:00 PM. After that, the Quakers play their first-ever matchup against Johnson & Wales University (N.C.) as NCAA Division-III opponents as the newest member of the Coast-to-Coast Conference, and tri-match hosts, will play the cardinal and grey around 3:00 PM.

The following Friday, October 17th, sees GC back into conference action with a visit to Eastern Mennonite University beginning at 6:00 PM. No matchup has proven more fruitful for Guilford all-time, as they stand with a 29-14 record against the Royals winning the last three head-to-head matchups including the last two via a sweep.

Finishing their lengthy stretch on the road, the Quakers stay north and clash with Shenandoah University on Saturday, October 18th at 1:00 PM after that. A new yet competitive rivalry, SU is Guilford’s youngest in-league opponent, not playing each-other until 2012 and sitting at 7-6 in favor of the Hornets all-time, but with GC coming away victorious the last two years.

The cardinal and grey finally return to Greensboro again, playing Roanoke College on Saturday, October 22nd at 6:00 PM. A matchup that has not seen a sweep in either direction since 2018, they are evenly split over their last ten encounters with five wins apiece, including Quakers victories the last two years.

Division-II Erskine College comes north to battle it out in the Ragan-Brown FieldHouse on Friday, October 24th at 6:00 PM. The first-ever meeting between the Quakers and Fleet will be the third-and-final matchup with an NCAA Division-II school on the Guilford schedule for 2025.

Another brand-new opponent, NCCAA Clinton College comes to Greensboro on Tuesday, October 28th at 6:00 PM. The Golden Bears finished 2025 with a 16-12 overall record.

Closing conference play, Guilford actually competes in a tri-match on Saturday, November 1st. The most-significant matchup of the day will naturally be the first one as GC plays Hollins starting at 11:00 AM. The Quakers are 28-2 all-time against HU, have not lost against their league foe since 2012, and have swept Hollins the last four years. In the middle contest, Guilford then plays JWU for the second time on the season with an expected start of 1:00 PM. These foes have not played each other since 2019 and have split their previous two meetings entering 2025.

Closing out their 2025 regular season, Guilford hosts Carolina University for their second-of-two encounters in 2025 on Friday, September 7th at 6:00 PM. Standing 2-1 entering the year against the Bruins, this matchup will also serve as the Quakers’ Senior Day celebration.

The ODAC Tournament will transpire on the week of Veterans Day. If Guilford qualifies, they will play their quarterfinals contest on Tuesday, November 11th with the subsequent rounds being played on Thursday, November 13th and Saturday, November 15th if they were to advance.
