Guilford College Rugby Introduces Schedule For Inaugural XV’s Campaign
Quakers to compete in six-match schedule in milestone season for program

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College rugby team ramps up for a landmark 2025 campaign, their first competing in XV’s, releasing their slate of competition for the upcoming year as announced by the Guilford College Athletics Department on Tuesday.
Going 9-12-2 last season in 7’s tournament play, the Quakers rugby program now prepares for a big step up to match play in the upcoming year. Competing in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA), GC’s fourth season as a varsity program comes with high hopes stemming from an experienced core.
“We are excited to begin our first full NIRA XV’s schedule this fall as part of the nation’s top collegiate competition,” Head Coach Christine Newcomb said. “This program has grown through the passion and dedication of our players, supporters, athletic administrators, and campus community. We hope our success will highlight the potential for continued NCAA rugby growth, and we look forward to competing.”
Guilford opens the season on the road, venturing to Warren Wilson College on Saturday, September 6th at 11:00 AM. The match will be the eighth all-time head-to-head opposite the Owls, bringing them even with Newberry College for the second-most-common opponent in the history of the rugby program with GC holding the advantage 4-2-1 over WWC.
A week later will be the Quakers’ home-opener as they host Emory & Henry University on Saturday, September 13th. The most-frequent foe in program-history, this will be their 12th encounter with the Yellow Jackets, including seven last season alone. The cardinal and grey went 3-3-1 opposite E&H, but 3-1-0 in the spring sector of the campaign including a three-match sweep on their foe’s home pitch on February 23rd.
Staying in Greensboro for their ensuing match, GC plays host to Queens University of Charlotte for their first clash since the fall of 2022 next. Set to play on Saturday, September 20th beginning at 1:00 PM, the Royals and Quakers battle for the third time all-time, with QU holding a 2-0-0 edge.
Guilford gets a bye week before another clash with Emory & Henry on Saturday, October 4th starting at 11:00 AM in Virginia. Entering 2025, GC is 7-3-1 against the Yellow Jackets, including 4-1-0 on the road.
In their lone non-conference clash of the season, the Quakers remain in-state and will battle UNC-Wilmington on Saturday, October 18th at 1:00 PM. This will be their first-ever bout opposite the Seahawks.
GC wraps up their fall with a clash against the same squad they began it against as Warren Wilson visits to duke it out on the Quakers’ home pitch on Saturday, October 25th at 11:00 AM. The foes broke even in their trio of matches last year, going 1-1-1.
