Looking at the new Kiser Middle School

Kiser Middle School opened it doors to students and parents on Wednesday and wow does it impress. Nice classrooms, bathrooms and open layout but….we were interested in the athletic facilities. The first thing I noticed was how bright and open the gymnasium is. The windows that line the top of it allow plenty of light through, making the space very inviting. Combine that with the light floor (not real wood) and high ceiling the gym feels really nice. The other thing I liked was the space between the first row of seats and the playing surface. Plenty of room for scoring tables, benches and the press (Something many schools, even HS, do not have).
It does not feel the floor was packed into the space, but rather the building was spaced out enough to give the sidelines and baselines some extra room. The scoreboards seem a bit small, but I have seen high schools with similar layouts. With it being able to seat over 1,200 students, I would suspect that Kiser hosts plenty of other sporting events besides just their own programs. Outside the gym is a standalone concession stand and unexpected surprise…tables and chairs so you can sit down and eat! Also next to the gym is very nice axillary gym that would rival any High school in the area.
The biggest issue for Kiser moving forward is no longer indoors, it will be where to practice outdoors. With the school now surrounded on all four sides (Wendover, Grimsley, Old Kiser and Brooks Global) finding a grassy practice field will mean walking a few blocks down the road.
Overall, the school is extremely well thought out and seemed really polished. Can’t wait to attend a game this year.
