Second Half Burst Propels UNCG Men’s Basketball Past William Peace, 90-62
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball team utilized a second half burst to get past non-conference opponent William Peace, 90-62, Friday night at Bodford Arena. This was an exhibition game for the Pacers.
Justin Neely recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a game- and season-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. Four other Spartans scored double-figures, including KJ Younger with 18 and Lilian Marville, Valentino Pinedo and Antwann Jones each with 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pinedo made a hook shot for the first basket of the game and Younger drained a free throw giving the Spartans a 3-0 lead. William Peace’s Elijah Green made a three-pointer to tie the game, 3-3, at 17:11. The score toggled back and forth until the Pacers tied the game up, 10-10, at 14:31 and maintained the advantage until the final basket of the half. UNCG tied the game up two more times, with the latter being from a layup by Pinedo and then Neely made a layup for the 39-37 lead before the break.’
William Peace tied the game at 39-39 with a pull-up jumper by Tyler Whitehurst at 19:42, but UNCG utilized a 14-4 run to climb to a 10-point lead, 53-43, with 14:11 remaining. The Spartans stayed on top and continued running up the score, eventually breaking the game open with a 28-point cushion twice in the game. The first was with 56-seconds left with a three-pointer from freshman Chane Bynum, for his first-collegiate points and the latter was the final basket of the game, a layup by Noah Norgaard to secure the 90-62 victory.

Jones’ 11 points is a season high.
Neely now has 12 double-doubles in his career.
Marville’s four assists is a season high.
UNCG had the advantage in field goal percentage (53.7-34.9) and three-point percentage (47.1-29.0).
The Spartans also outmatched the Pacers in points in the paint (56-16), points off turnovers (13-4) and fast break points (18-2).
William Peace had the edge in free throw percentage (90.0-66.7).
