Tommy Norwood, the St. James High School head football coach, has stepped down from his position, MyHorryNews confirmed on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Coach Tommy Norwood led St. James since 2018. St. James Athletic Director Collin Liggett confirmed the news on Tuesday.
The St. James opening is now the third high school head football coach opening in Horry County. Jobs at Conway High and North Myrtle Beach High are already open.
Norwood coached in North Carolina for around 30 years before coming to Horry County, coaching at the high school level for more than 40 years.

Norwood has proven to be a loyal coach over the years. He coached at three North Carolina schools in 36 years while serving as a head coach in 31 of them. Out of college, he spent two years as an assistant at Northwood High, served three years as an assistant at Ragsdale and led Southeast Guilford as a head coach for 12 years before returning to lead Ragsdale for nearly two decades.
Coach Norwood coached RB Toney Baker at Ragsdale HS, and Baker is one of the top rushing/running backs in the history of North Carolina High School Football…Coach Norwood took the Ragsdale Tigers football team to the 2000 NCHSAA 3-A Football State Championship Game, where his Tigers lost a very tough game to Bertie…Coach Norwood was recently named the District Coach of the Year at St. James High School, there in Murrell’s Inlet, S.C.
This past season, the St. James Sharks under the leadership of Coach Norwood made it to Round One of the South Carolina High School Football Playoffs…For the 2025 season, Coach Norwood’s St. James Sharks finished at (4-7) overall…For his eight seasons at St. James High School, Coach Norwood’s Sharks went (24-54)….
