Women’s Basketball Rings in 2026 With Dominating 114-35 Victory Over Carolina University

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s basketball team rung in the New Year with a dominating 114-35 win over Carolina University on Thursday afternoon inside Bodford Arena.

The Spartans never allowed the Bruins to lead in the contest. This is the second game this season that the Spartans reached the century mark as the team recorded 119 points against Bob Jones on Dec. 13, 2025.

The win over the Bruins marks 24-straight home wins for the Spartans and makes the team 35-1 over the past two seasons.

Eight Spartans reached double-figures in the game, marking the most Spartans to reach double-figures in a contest this season. Jeni Levine, Makiah Asidanya, Kristina Rakotobe and Mia Simpson all recorded double-doubles. It was Rakotobe and Asidanya’s first career double-doubles, while it was Simpson’s second career double-double, but first as a Spartan. In addition, it was Levine’s second double-double of her career and the season.

Leyla Minor led the game with a new career-best 17 points. Levine and Tasia Johnson followed closely behind with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Rylan Moffitt, Asidanya and Simpson chipped in 12 points each. Joelle Davis added 11 points, while Rakotobe recorded a new game-high 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UNCG started off the contest with seven-straight points to never allow the Bruins to lead in the game. With the Blue & Gold holding the 18-9 advantage at 3:29, the squad strung together a 9-0 run to conclude the quarter on top, 27-9.

Carolina University found its footing to start the second quarter with a 4-2 run, but UNCG continued to maintain control. At 5:18, Levine knocked down a triple to propel the Spartans to a 21-0 run. UNCG went into the break with a 58-19 advantage. The 58 points scored in the half was the second-most this season as the first came against Bob Jones with 61.

The Bruins came out of the break to drop three consecutive baskets before UNCG quickly responded with a 6-0 run of its own, 64-22. The Spartans continued to dominate in the third frame. Davis launched a corner three-pointer with two seconds left on the clock to send both teams to the break with UNCG holding an 89-34 lead.

UNCG turned on the jets in the final frame to outscore the Bruins, 25-1. The 28-0 scoring run from the Spartans marks the best this season. The first six points of the fourth quarter came from Minor alone. The Bruins got the final basket and only one for the visiting team in the quarter after going 1-for-2 at the free throw line with 26 seconds left on the clock.
