Greensboro’s Devan Boykin(Ragsdale HS) Top Tackler for Indiana Hoosiers, in IU College Football Playoff win over Alabama, 38-3

Former Ragdale Tiger, Devan Boykin, helped lead his Indiana Hoosiers to their 38-3 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide, in the College Football Playoffs on New Year’s Day, at the Rose Bowl, in Pasadena, California…

We remember Devan Boykin when he was just a kid playing for the Jamestown Middle School Tigers, and also later when he played for his dad and head coach Johnny Boykin, while Devan was the QB/WR/DB/Kick Return man for the Ragsdale Tigers there in Jamestown, N.C.

Devan used to be the ballboy for the Ragsdale Tigers while he was in middle school, at Jamestown Middle…Brian Herndon was the Athletic Director at Ragsdale High School back then, and Devan worked hard as that ballboy, and then worked his way up to the Ragsdale varsity team, and later he played at N.C. State University…

In the IU Hoosiers win over Alabama, Devan Boykin led the IU Defense in Solo Tackles, and also in Total Tackles, and in Tackles for a Loss…Devan with 7 Total Tackles, 6 Solo Tackles, 3 Tackles for a Loss and he had 1 Sack…All of that coming up to be in on all those plays from his Defensive Back position…For the 2025 season, Devan Boykin also with 2 Interceptions, 2 Fumble Recoverie, and 5 Pass Deflections…

Very solid season for the young man from Greensboro, N.C., who played his high school football at Ragsdale High School…

This word from ESPN.com and they got in a Devan Boykin shoutout in their ESPN.com summary of the IU-Alabama game…
Any remaining doubts about Indiana’s ability to contend for — and win — its first national title vanished into the rarefied air surrounding the Rose Bowl. The Hoosiers clobbered Alabama in every facet, employing a balanced offense and stifling defense to overwhelm the Tide at the line of scrimmage. Indiana’s 10th-ranked run game didn’t get enough attention, but Roman Hemby propelled a ground game that kept the offense out of difficult situations. Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza was excellent from the second quarter on, leading several long touchdown drives. Devan Boykin and others led a defense that proved again why it’s among the nation’s best and most consistent units.
