Picked up the local TV coverage of the Winter Storm of 2026 on Sunday morning, and I found all three of our local TV stations, WFMY TV 2, WGHP FOX 8, and WXII TV 12 rolling strong on Sunday morning…
WFMY TV 2 won the morning battle, as they ran from 5am until 10am and had the longest non-stop run/coverage on Sunday morning…WGHP FOX 8, and WXII TV 12 both left out after a couple of hours of coverage and went to their regularly scheduled Sunday morning shows…
Again, morning honors going to WFMY TV 2, and then later in day, as we hit the afternoon news blocks, WXII TV 12 was the true Winner…Channel 2 had the football game going, and FOX 8 had football later in the afternoon…WXII TV 12 hit their coverage around 4 or 5pm, and WXII got it rolling, and kept it rolling…Christine Cruz, Dave Aiken, and an assortment other news people and reporters contiuned to cover the Ice Storm inside and out, with major details…
During their morning coverage, WXII had Brian Slocum anchoring their weather features, and he did a great job…Slocum looks like Drew Carey, and he even sounds like Drew Carey…Maybe Slocum could become the fill-in host of the Price Is Right Show…
On their afternoon news coverage of the Ice Storm, and before they went to football, FOX 8 did very good job of showing us how the streets were looking, by having their reporters drive around on the icy streets and they would give LIVE road/street conditions…Bob Buckley from FOX 8 was driving through downtown Greensboro, and headed out toward Battleground Avenue, and he had the camera rolling…I knew, and was familiar with all the streets he was driving on…And to go into full disclosure, I think Bob Buckley had a driver, and Bob was probably sitting in the passenger’s seat…Good reporting there though…
Still for overall coverage, WFMY TV 2 with Lauren Coleman and Megan Mollerus at the anchor desk, WFMY TV 2 did the best job with the morning half of the day, and then WXII won the afternoon/early evening portion of the day…
So we had a tie on Sunday, with WFMY TV 2, and WXII TV 12 winning out…Good job by all the local staions on Sunday, with the emphasis being placed on we need to get sleet, instead of freezing rain, we came out of Sunday in pretty good overall shape…Weathermen like Tim Buckley(WFMY TV 2), Vann Denton(WGHP FOX 8), and Dave Aiken(WXII TV 12), all kept educating us on how important it was that we got sleet instead of freezing rain, and they did a very good job, of driving that point home…
I do not have cable, so I do not receive the Spectrum News Reports, and can not evaluate the job that Spectrum did in their storm coverage…Maybe someone else can give us the Spectrum spectrum…
Time get my own late-night personal weather update now before I hit the bed…Just go outside, look up in the sky, and see if anything is falling, and if not, call it a success, and then call it a day…
