Women’s Golf Claims a Tie for Second Place in Advance Golf Partners Collegiate
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s golf team concluded the third and final round of the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for second place with Lipscomb at 35-over-par (899).
TEAM
UNCG again improved from the previous round of third to finish up in a tie for second in the competition.
The Spartans carded an overall score of 35-over-par (899) with rounds of 308-299-292.
UNCG recorded 29 birdies and 166 pars across the tournament, which ranks fourth and second respectively.
The Blue & Gold had the second-best score on par threes in the tournament, going 14-over par for an average score of 3.23.
Virginia Tech won the tournament with a four-over-par total score(868).
INDIVIDUAL
Chanelle Mwangi moved up seven spots in the final round to finish on top for the Spartans in a tie for 14th place. Mwangi posted an overall score of seven-over-par (223) behind rounds of 77-75-71.
Sophie Lauture and Lulu Leetham each secured a share of 16th place, finishing with a score of eight-over-par apiece(224). Leetham was tied for the most pars made in the competition with 41, while teammate Lauture was tied for fifth with 37.
Kasey McIlvaine and Julia Baeumken finished tied for 25th turning in a final score of 11-over-par (227).
Elle Burnette rounded out the scorecard with a 21-over par (237) for a share of 61st place in the tournament.
“I thought overall we played well this week.” said Head Coach Ashley Leonard. “I’m very proud of the team and how they stayed patient and just kept grinding. Today was a great way to finish the tournament and great way to start our spring season in a very solid feel.”
UP NEXT
The Spartans will be back in action from Feb. 20-22 to take part in the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational in Greensboro, Georgia, at Great Waters Golf Course hosted by The Southern Conference rival Mercer.
