He was Coach Beasley and also at one time AD Beasely at Southeast Guilford High School, home of the SEG Falcons…Coach Beasley was the father of current SEG High School baseball coach Dave Beasley…Dave Beasley also coaches football and basketball at Southeast Guilford Middle School…Mr. Bill Beasley also the father of Sam Beasley, who has coached at several schools in our area…
Bill Beasley at one time was the head football at Southeast Guilford…He also coached baseball at Southeast Guilford HS, back in the day…He left us in early February, at age 95…I just learned of his death, this Sunday morning at church…He was a good one, and especially for all the work he did in the Pleasant Garden and Southeast Guilford communities, he will be missed…

John William “Bill” Beasley
January 24, 1931 – February 2, 2026
John William “Bill” Beasley went to his heavenly reward on February 2, 2026, after 95 blessed years. Bill was predeceased by Helen, his wife of 73 years; parents, Harry and Mattie Beasley; daughter, Becky Mayer; and sisters, Fleata Little and Shirley Simmons. He is survived by four children, Debbie Beasley Kinley, Dave Beasley (Lauren), Sam Beasley (Lynn), Brian Beasley (Jeana); son-in-law, Todd Mayer; 13 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, who knew him as “PawPaw.”
Bill “PawPaw” played multiple sports at Greensboro Senior High (Grimsley) and attended Brevard Junior College on a baseball scholarship until his college days were interrupted by four years in the Navy, during the Korean War. While on leave, he married his high school sweetheart and started a family. Following his service to his country, Bill rejected professional baseball offers in favor of providing stability for his growing family. He graduated from High Point College and started his 32-year teaching and coaching career at Pleasant Garden, then Southeast Guilford Middle and High School. He molded and changed many young lives.
Coach Beasley’s love of teaching and coaching was evident, but his life’s purpose was to serve God and to raise a Godly and successful family. A life member of Glenwood Presbyterian Church, he served as a deacon, elder, usher, greeter, and Sunday School teacher as well as other leadership roles. Despite low teacher wages, he believed in the importance of tithing as he recognized the blessings that come from trusting in God to supply our needs. (“You can’t outgive God”) and in giving to many charities. This was significant because, in many ways, Bill was known for being extremely frugal. During the summers, he supplemented his income by working for the NC Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Services, teaching young boys how to measure tobacco, and then later managing Hillsdale Park Swimming Pool and Southeast Swim Club.
Bill’s mechanical ability was amazing; he could fix almost anything despite the fact that his electrician father died on the job when Bill was just three years old, so he had no one to teach him these skills. He also did the family sewing, including covering the furniture, and he made the dessert every Friday for our “famous” Friday night spaghetti suppers. On Father’s Day, he would grill steaks for the family to show his gratitude and appreciation for his family. He became caretaker for Helen in her later years and did almost everything for her because she only wanted his help. (“Bill can do it.”).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 7th, at 12 p.m., at Glenwood Presbyterian Church, led by pastors Suzanne Schafer-Coates and Brian Beasley. Visitation precedes at 11 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. Those wishing to send memorial contributions can send them to the church at 1205 Glenwood Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27403.
Bill’s family is grateful to Home Helpers of Jamestown for their care of him during his last few weeks, so that he was able to stay at home.
