Smith boys 92, Southwest Guilford 77

Smith girls over SWG game summary…..
Smith(9-10/6-6)…SWG(14-8/5-7)
End of First Quarter:Smith 10, SWG 7…Halftime:SWG 17, Smith 17…End of Third Quarter:Smith 28, SWG 23…Final:Smith 39, SWG 38
Smith Scoring:Leanna Maffett 12 points, Kalicia Deberry 10, London Haith 8, Ariel Price 7…Kaayah Bellamy 2…
SWG Scoring:Star Hughes 16 points, McKenzie Moore 13, Alyson Webb 8, Sofia Silva 1…
Late in the game, Leanna Maffett really kept Smith in it..She hit a couple of late 2s, that were really big…Kalicia Deberry had a solid game for Smith, and senior PG Little London Haith also had a very strong performance for the Smith Golden Eagles…For Southwest Guilford, they looked to Star Hughes, then McKenzie Moore, and then on to Alyson Webb for their strength…Smith slipped out with the win, and never looked back…As for us, after the boys game was over, our broadcast team, went out the back door…

Smith boys over SWG game summary…..
Smith(19-5/12-0)…SWG(17-5/8-3)
End of First Quarter:Smith 26, SWG 17…Halftime:Smith 47, SWG 34…End of the Third Quarter:Smith 73, SWG 50…Final Score:Smith 92, SWG 77
Smith Scoring:Jyi Dawkins 27 points, Jordan Suggs 12, Kadyn Turner-Scott 11, Nick Cannon 11, Galvin Palmore 6, Mohamed N’diaya 6, Tyrie Pressley 4, JT Tuck 4, Jordan Partee 3, Tayon Lacewell 2…
SWG Scoring:Brayden Gatling 31 points, Darrell Howze 16, Manny Martin 8, Wesley Oxce 7, Gavin Padgett 4, Braylon Ray 3, Wade Watkins 3, Kam Hall 2
Smith out-scored SWG 26-14 in the Third Quarter…Big development early was SWG’s Darrell Howze being saddled with 3 fouls, and he had to sit and watch much of the First Half…Howze picked up his fourth foul, early in the Third Period, and he had sit down, until the beginning of the Fourth Frame…Smith saw SWG cut the lead to 10 late in the Fourth and final stanza, before Smith went on a monumental 5-0 run to close the game, and the Smith Golden Eagles win this game, by 15 points…

In that end-of-the-game 5-0 run by Smith, Nick Cannon hit a huge three-point shot, and on the very last play of the game, Smith’s Jordan Suggs, a 6-foot point guard, got his first ever in-game dunk, and his shot/dunk closed the game, and got the entire Smith Golden Eagles team running off the court and to the locker room, chasing the elated Suggs, as the Final Horn sounded…We can tell you, Suggs really threw that rock down hard, on his flush…

Sounds like a winning recipe to me…SWG relies very heaviley on their two key players, Gatling and Howze, and without Howze, Smith was able to put extra defensive focus on Gatling, and Brayden Gatling was having to work overtime, to find his best shots, with the Smith tight defense harassing him…

Tall with long arms, and the Smith defense has you locked down…Smith is also at least 10-deep in their rotation with super-quality players always ready, and available and ready to Go…Dawkins, Turner-Scott, Palmore, Suggs, and N’diaya will start, and coming off the bench, Smith can bring and mix in Cannon, Tyrie Presley, Steve Stockton, JT Tuck, Darius Chukwuemeka, and Jordan Partee and they will never miss a beat, with those young men from the reserve ranks…

Jyi Dawkins had another complete game for Smith, with his shooting, his rebounding, his defensive work, and with that tough defense he was playing, we only had him with 1 foul…And on this day, the Play of the Day for Jyi Dawkins might have been his alley oopp lob pass to N’diaya for the Slam Dunk…Just a perfect timing pass by Dawkins, who set up Mohamed N’diaya perfectly, for the big-time “Throw Down”…On the ‘Dunk Chart’, Jordan Suggs still had the top Ben L. Smith dunk of the day, as he closed out the contest with his Slam, but for pure smootheness, the Dawkins to N’diaya slammer was a “work of art”…..

Dawkins shooting percentage must have been at right around 70.1% from the field, and as we said in the broadcast, “He(Dawkins) don’t miss many shots ladies and gentlemen”…He is in our humble opinion, The Best Boys High School Basketball Player in the state of North Carolina…Dawkins can do it all, as we mentioned already, the shooting, the scoring, the rebounding, the defensive work, and as we saw on display this Saturday, and in more and more games as the season heads to the finish, his Passing Game…..

Smith hoping to go on get their second straight State Championship, here in 2026, and if all the pieces fall into place, Jyi Dawkins should be named the Top Player in the state of North Carolina…And he played great last season in 24-25, and his work in the Smith 3-A Title Game win over Southern Durham, was excellent….

He has made a believer out of me/us, and here’s hoping Smith can stay on this current course, on the way to another coveted State Championship/Title….

The Smith Golden Eagles and Southwest Guilford Cowboys with both boys and girls teams, will be in the Metro 7-A/6-A Conference Tournament next week, at Ben L. Smith High School…The semifinals will be on Wednesday, and the finals, are Friday night…Smith boys the #1 seed, while the SWG boys will the #2 boys seed…
