UNCG Baseball Set for Back-To-Back Midweek Clashes

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team is set to continue the 2026 season, traveling to Wilson Field to take on the Davidson Wildcats on Tuesday. Then the Spartans will host inner city rival North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

PRESEASON HONORS
The Spartans were voted to finish fifth in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Samford claimed the top spot with four first-place votes and 45 points. Mercer was picked to finish second with 44 points and three first-place votes.
Junior left-handed pitcher Noah Chapman was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Second Team ahead of the season after throwing 68.1 innings with a 5.14 ERA in 21 appearances in 2025.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
The Spartans lost all three games against No. 18 Kentucky.
Six freshmen made their collegiate debuts this past weekend against the Wildcats.
Jacob Dilley was UNCG’s best hitter this past weekend. In three games played, he hit .444 with four base knocks, two RBIs and one home run.
UNCG concluded the 2025 season with a 21-33 overall record and went 9-12 in SoCon play.
Entering the SoCon Tournament as the sixth seed, the Spartans ended the 2025 campaign with a play-in round loss to Wofford, 4-2, at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina.
The Blue & Gold returns 20 players from last year’s squad while adding 16 newcomers to the roster. Eleven of them are freshmen this year.
The Spartans boasted one of the better pitching staffs last season in the SoCon, if not in the nation, finishing 35th in shutouts (4), 52nd in strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.27), 60th in strikeouts-per-nine innings (9.1) and 60th in walks allowed-per-nine innings (3.99).
A plethora of impactful pitchers return to the 2026 squad, including Grant Aycock and Hunter Shuey who have earned All-SoCon nods in previous seasons.
Head Coach Cody Ellis enters his third season at the helm of the Spartans, guiding them to a 54-54 record during his time.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Davidson is coming off a 27-29 overall record from the 2025 season, which included an 18-12 record in A10 games.
The Wildcats finished fourth last season in the A-10, advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament before getting knocked out.
The Cats most recently dropped their opening day series against Bryant, going 1-2 on the weekend.
Forrest Lietz is Davidson’s most prolific offensive threat, averaging .571 with eight RBIs and three runs scored.
Ed Hall paces the squad on the mound with a 2.08 ERA in four and a third innings of work.
The Wildcats are led by Head Coach Rucker Taylor who enters his fourth season at the helm of the program with an overall record of 194-145.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE WILDCATS
The Spartans are 14-17 against the Wildcats, with the last meeting between the two being on March 27, 2022, where Davidson took the 7-3 win.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES
North Carolina A&T recorded a 15-37 overall record during the 2025 season, going 9-18 record in CAA games.
To begin the 2026 campaign, A&T is 1-1 after two games played against North Illinois.
Bruce Wynche is the Aggies’ best bat, hitting .500 with six RBIs in eight plate appearances.
Marcus Bradshaw and JT Taylore have combined for seven out of the Aggies’ 12 total runs this season
A&T is led by Head Coach Ben Hall, who in 12 seasons as skipper, has accumulated a record of 216-325.

SERIES HISTORY VS. THE AGGIES
UNCG leads the series 22-7 against North Carolina A&T. The Spartans took all three games in the series last season against the Aggies.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will host Canisius in a three-game series at UNCG Baseball Stadium in Greensboro from Feb. 20-22. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
