Final:Smith boys 70, Western Guilford 46
Was at the Smith-Western Guilford boys game over at Ben L. Smith High School, inside the Bob McAdoo Gym, and the Smith boys topped the Western Guilford Hornets, 70-46…Smith moves on to the Regionals, and they will be at home on Monday night….
Western was in this game early, as the WG Hornets came out of the gate, and ran out to a 7-0 lead early…Western led 13-8 over Smith at the end of the First Quarter, and then the Smith Golden Eagles really took off, and grabbed a 28-16 advantage over WG at halftime…
Smith extended that spread to 46-27 Smith, at the End of the Third Quarter, before Smith finished with their 70-46 victory…Smith down five points after one quarter, then out-scoring WG 20-3 in the second period…Smith on top 18-9 in the third period, then taking it downtown 24-19 in the fourth frame…
Smith’s leading scorer was Jyi Dawkins with 32 points, and he went 14-15 from the free throw line and also, I think we had him for 12 rebounds… This kid don’t miss many shots/rebounds/chances ladies and gentlemen…Smith with 12 points for Nick Cannon, Eight points including Two 3s for Darius Chuwumeka, Kaden Turner-Scott had six points with Two 3s, Smith had Steve Stockton with 4, Jordan Suggs with 3, plus Galvin Palmore and Tyrie Pressley had two points each..We have Smith hitting 24 Free Throws as a team…
Western Guilford countered with Jayce Williams connecting for 16 points, and he sat out almost half the game with foul trouble…Seth Harris had an off night scoring, as he only came up with 13 points…John Reid responded well for Western, as JR pumped in 7 Hornet points…Elijah Riddick hit five WG free throws, for his five point, Xavier Robinson was good for 3 WG points, and Caleb Moore finished with 2 points…
Smith improves to (23-5) for the season, and the Golden Eagles will be in action again on Monday, in Round Four of the playoffs, as the Regionals get rolling…Western Guilford closed things out for the year, at (17-13), and that leaves the WG Hornets just three wins shy of a 20 win season, and 20 win seasons don’t come along too often for good ole WG…Great Hornets, on a Super Fine Season, and the Fall of 2026-2027 will be here before we know it…
