Northern Guilford vs. Terry Sanford, playing back now, on GreensboroSports Radio…..Northern Guilford Nighthawks Women’s Team:STATE CHAMPIONS
MORE on the Northern Guilford-Terry Sanford game from today, on the way….
From Thursday at the LJVM in Winston-Salem….
Most Valuable Player from the game….Leena McField from Northern Guilford
Most Outstanding Player from the Northern Guilford Nighthawks…Aliyah Settle
Northern took an early lead in this game, with the Nighthawks out to an early 4-0 advantage, but they were missing loads of layups and three-point attempts…
Terry Sanford came roaring back and the Bulldogs led by two points after the first quarter, and the Bulldogs grabbed a five-point spread at the half…
NG very tough coming out of the halftime break, and the Nighthawks took off on a 5-0 run to begin the second half…NG up by two points by the end of the Third Quarter…
Northern got rolling in a large way in the fourth period, and with Leena McField, Aliyah Settle, and Anaya Pearley leading the charge, Northern Guilford went out in front by as many as 13 points, in the final frame of the game, and this in turn, was the Final Eight Minutes of the Season, and the Northern Guilford Nighthawks saved their BEST BBall for the last period of the year…
Northern won it going away by 10 points, and when Terry Sanford’s Ameya Brown picked up her fifth foul, and she was gone, the Terry Sanford Bulldogs were in big trouble…
Jaidiah Blake was huge for the TS Bulldogs in the first half, as she hit for 14 points, and she was 5-7 from the Free Throw Line…Blake only scored half of her first half total, in the second stanza of the game, and she only got to Foul Line twice in the second half…Alani Skye-Wilkerson had eight first half points for Terry Sanford, but she could only find five points after intermission…
Northern was stepping up their “D” and was making Terry Sanford work extra hard for their shots, and the Nighthawks also forced the TS Bulldogs to have to work much harder on defense, and Northern would not let the Bulldogs, get the loose balls…
NG was winning all phases of the game in the second half of this contest, and once NG put their foot on the gas pedal, Terry Sanford could not find their way back into this contest…
Northern was going with an Eight-Girl Rotation, with Ava Foushee, Sarah Moore, and Allias Womack entering the ball game to play super-tough defense, to grab key rebounds, and the set picks/screens that would free up Leena McField, for a better route/lane to the basket on her penetration dribble…Those NG reserves were such a key component to what Northern needed to do, and Coach Josh Evans, was using his timeouts that he saved up throughout the game, to make sure his players had a little extra rest when they needed it…
NG did not let up on the gas, once they seized control of this State Title Game, and when you look at the NG scoring totals, the top four players on your sheet, really jump out at you….Leena McField, Aliyah Settle, Anaya Pearley, and Georgia Lewis did all the scoring that the Nighthawks needed, on this Championship Thursday…
NG Nighthawks Scoring:Leena McField 24 points, Aliyah Settle 16 points, Anaya Pearley 14 points, Georgia Lewis 8 points…The top four NG players on your scoresheet did all the scoring for you…Settle added 8 rebounds, while McField and Lewis had 7 boards each, and look at this nugget…There is Sarah Moore with 5 big NG Nighthawks rebounds, after she entered the game as a key reserve…Another interesting note:Georgia Lewis’ dad, Marc Lewis, was the MVP of the 1990 Men’s State Championship Game, as he led his Page Pirates, to the State 4-A Title…
Terry Sanford Scoring:Jaidiah Blake 21 points and 10 rebounds, Alani Skye-Wilkerson 13 points and 12 rebounds, Ameya Brown 8 points, Amya Harrington and Neiylah Marcelin 4 points each, Zaniya Reddick 2 points…
Game Summary:End of First Quarter:TS 13, NG 11…Halftime:TS 28, NG 23…End of Third Quarter:NG 43, TS 41…Final Score:NG 62, TS 52
**********Here is something else that has to make you feel good…Northern Guilford was 24-34 from the Free Throw Line…Leena McField 10-14…Aliyah Settle 6-10…Anaya Pearley 5-6…Georgia Lewis 3-4….And that ladies and gentlemen is MONEY…The Terry Sanford Sanford Bulldogs only got the Foul Line 12 times, and the Bulldogs were 8-12…It was a key for NG to make those shots for FREE, because NG went 2-16 from Three/Three-Point Shot Range…Good deal, and good to get the “W”, as in State Championship…..**********
++++++++++On the other hand, the Terry Sanford Bulldogs were 4-33 from behind the Three-Point arch, and both teams felt the struggle, when it came to their depth perception, on this day.++++++++++
A very nice second half number for you…..Northern out-scored Terry Sanford, 39-24 in the second half of this ballgame, and we would all like to know what all was said from NG Coach Josh Evans, and his coaching staff at Halftime….
Congratulations Northern Guilford Nighthawks:STATE CHAMPIONS
