Cooper Flagg is making a pretty big statement in his quest for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award. After scoring 51 points for the Dallas Mavericks in their loss to the Orlando Magic on Friday night, he followed it up with a 45-point effort in a 134-128 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

That two-game stretch is nearly unmatched in NBA history for a rookie, and puts him in some pretty exclusive company.

Cooper Flagg joins exclusive club with great two-game stretch
With his 96 points over two games, Flagg joins only Wilt Chamberlain as the only rookies in NBA history to have at least 96 points over any two-game stretch.

Anytime you are on a list that includes only Wilt Chamberlain, it is a pretty good sign you have done something significant.

That is the case here with Flagg, as he continues to get more and more comfortable with the NBA game and establishes himself as one of the game’s best young stars.

Flagg is averaging 20.2 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, 4.5 assists per game and has to be considered the front-runner for the league’s Rookie of the Year.

His arrival in Dallas is a massive boost for a franchise (and fan base) that was reeling from the stunning trade of Luka Doncic to the Lakers before the 2024-25 NBA trade deadline. The Mavericks again have a young star they can build around, and he keeps getting better every game.
