UNCG Softball Splits Doubleheader with Wofford
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Wofford, 7-3, in game one, and then bounced back with a 3-1 victory in game two on Saturday at Hope Field.
The Spartans are now 29-15 overall and 9-2 in the SoCon, while the Terriers are 27-10 overall and 5-5 in the conference.
GAME 1: UNCG 3 – WOFFORD 7
Wofford got on the board first following two scoreless innings by way of a Brianna Stanley double for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
The Spartans found their way onto the board in the top of the fourth, as Rylie Williams singled up the middle and Avery Bouquin scored on a throwing error to tie the game, 1-1.
The Terriers tallied five runs on four hits and two errors in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-1 cushion.
In the top of the sixth, Bouquin walked to lead off and with one out, Williams crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence cutting the deficit to three, 6-3.
The homer was Williams’ third of the season and 12th of her career.
Wofford’s Stanley responded with a solo blast of her own to left field in the bottom of the sixth, giving the Terriers a 7-3 lead.
Abby Greenwood in the circle for Wofford, held on for the win in the top of the seventh after the Spartans grounded out, singled and then lined into a double play.

GAME 2: UNCG 3 – WOFFORD 1
The game remained scoreless through the first five innings as both teams were limited offensively.
UNCG broke through in the top of the sixth with a three-run inning.
Bouquin started the scoring with an RBI double that scored Chrissy Rabenold.
Williams followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Salem Ward drove in the final run of the frame with a single through the right side putting UNCG up 3-0.
Wofford cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth after a lead-off double and then single that scored Platte.
Neither team tallied a hit or run in the seventh, as Rhyann Jones secured her fifth win of the season and third complete game of the season.

The Spartans and Terriers will wrap up the three-game series with a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Hope Field.
