Highly Ranked North Carolina Golfers Ryan Gerard, Alex Smalley Join Wyndham Championship Field

HIGHLY RANKED NORTH CAROLINA GOLFERS RYAN GERARD, ALEX SMALLEY JOIN WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two highly ranked North Carolina golfers, Ryan Gerard and Alex Smalley, will play next month’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 87th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 5-9, 2026, at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

These players join World No. 3 and defending champion Cam Young, reigning PGA Championship winner and 2024 Wyndham winner Aaron Rai, five-time Major winner Brooks Koepka, FedExCup No. 7 Si Woo Kim and FedExCup No. 19 Alex Fitzpatrick as well as past champions Brandt Snedeker, Lucas Glover and Webb Simpson.

Gerard is 18th in FedExCup points and 24th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is a Raleigh native who played collegiate golf at the University of North Carolina, and he is one of 129 AJGA Wyndham Invitational alumni that reached the PGA TOUR. He won his first PGA TOUR event at the Barracuda Championship last season and has three runner-up finishes this season. He finished second at the Sony Open in Hawaii, tied for second at the American Express and lost a playoff to JT Poston at The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. He will make his third Wyndham Championship start next month.

Smalley is 24th in FedExCup points and 45th in the Official World Golf Rankings. A native of Rochester, N.Y., now living in Greensboro, he played collegiate golf at Duke University. Smalley is still in search of his first win, but he has several excellent finishes this season including tied for second at the PGA Championship won by Aaron Rai. A member at Sedgefield Country Club, he also finished tied for second at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, tied for third at the Charles Schwab Challenge and tied for seventh at the Cadillac Championship. He will make his sixth consecutive Wyndham Championship start next month.
