I have been tracking them all, and have been seeing and hearing the stories about the new local high school coaches for the upcoming 2026-2027 high school sports season…Several articles in the local paper, with most coming in from Bryant Roches(doing a very good job on his coverage of the local scene), and we have seen some headlines at the Greensboro.com site, but can’t read those since I am not a member…You would think they would give an old hand like me a honorary membership, with free reading for the next few years, but have not seen that offer coming my way yet…Did see where the Dallas Morning News has a special offer going on, and it looks like it is pretty easy on the wallet….

But for those upcoming new coaches, that have most recently been announced, to be hitting the local scene for this new school year…
Barry Carver, new Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Western Guilford High School…Has been the JV girls coach there, and an assistant coach on the varsity squad in recent seasons…Has a very tall player, Jordan Goods coming in from WG Middle School, and she is the daughter of Quinton Goods, who played as a tall center for the Smith Golden Eagles, back when Art Wade was coaching the Smith boys…
John Spell, new baseball coach at Northern Guilford High School…The word I had was Coach Spell was the JV baseball coach at Northern last season, and also helped with the Varsity team…Was at Ledford at one time, and thinking he was coaching in the Greg Suire program for the HiToms, on the American Legion level…His playing days could well have also been spent at Ledford…
Elizabeth Jones, new volleyball coach at Caldwell Academy…From what I can tell, not yet a college graduate, but she does have experience coaching at Caldwell under her coach there, when she played there, Dan Bozarth…Jones at age 21, takes over for Bozarth and she will lead the varsity program, at the Caldwell Academy…The shirt I am currently wearing is a blue nylon shirt, very thin, and perfect for these humid conditions we have been having, and My Shirt Reads, “CA Athletics”…And that doesn’t stand for Carl Durham Athletics, the shirt means Caldwell Academy Athletics…I have two of these shirts, and they are a major part of my Summer Shirt Rotation…Best of Luck, to the young up-and-coming coach at Caldwell, Elizabeth Jones…
Finally got to recognize Derrick Partee, the now long-time boys head varsity coach at Ben L. Smith High School…He is not a new coach for our county, but he will be an West All-Stars assistant basketball coach, in next Summer’s North Carolina Coaches Association Basketball Games, at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex…Partee was a member of the Dudley Panthers team that won the Men’s 4-A State Title, back in 1996, in a victory over Richmond County…Then his Smith Golden Eagles team won the Men’s 3-A Title one year ago, in 2025, when they defeated Southern Durham, at the LJVM Coliseum in Winston-Salem…The title game back in 1996, was at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill…I was there to announce both the ’96, and the ’25 games, and now we see Derrick Partee trying to make it THREE…State Basketball Title as Player, State Basketball Title as a head coach, and the East-West All-Stars coaching crown to go with it…Pretty big shot at THREE right there…And chances like that don’t come around often…Good Luck to Partee, as he goes for THREE…
