Michael Lombardi, who was placed on administrative leave Monday morning, is under investigation after a former UNC employee filed a human resources complaint against him, a source close to the situation confirmed to TarHeel247.
The decision to place Lombardi on leave was announced by Dean Stoyer, the Vice Chancellor of Communications and Marketing at North Carolina. It did not come from the football program of athletic department.
“The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has placed Michael Lombardi, general manager for the Carolina football program, on paid administrative leave, effective immediately,” the announcement read.

Lombardi was hired by Bill Belichick and North Carolina in December 2024 and is the highest-compensated general manager in college football, earning approximately $1.5 million annually.
His contract is set to run through January 2028.
Lombardi was in charge of assembling the Tar Heels’ roster, which included the transfer portal and the incoming 2027 recruiting class, which contains 40 freshmen.
