GRASSHOPPERS’ NINE-HIT ATTACK COMES UP SHORT AGAINST SPARTANBURGERS

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Grasshoppers fell to the Hub City Spartanburgers, 5-4, on Friday, August 28. With the win, the Spartanburgers improved to 23-35 in the second half of the season, while the Grasshoppers dropped to 34-24. Greensboro outhit Hub City, 9-6, but committed four errors compared to one by the Spartanburgers.
Leading the Grasshoppers at the plate was infielder Dylan Palmer, who went 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored. Outfielder Jared Jones followed with a 2-for-2 performance, recording two home runs, two RBI, and two runs scored. Wyatt Sanford, Edward Florentino, Axiel Plaz, and Tony Blanco Jr. also recorded hits for Greensboro.
Designated hitter Maxton Martin led the Spartanburgers offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double. Paxton Kling, Quincy Scott, Esteban Mejia, and Evan Morrison also recorded hits for Hub City.
Left-handed pitcher Jacob Bimbi got the start on the mound for Greensboro, recording one strikeout while allowing two hits, two earned runs, and four walks over 3.0 innings. Right-handed pitcher Adolfo Oviedo was charged with the loss for the Grasshoppers and fell to 2-1 on the season.
Left-handed pitcher Ben DeTaeye started for Hub City, striking out four while allowing six hits and four earned runs over 4.2 innings. Right-handed pitcher Luke Savage earned the win for the Spartanburgers, improving to 4-3 on the season.
