UNCG Men’s Golf Sits Atop Leaderboard of 16th Annual Rod Myers Invitational
DURHAM, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s golf team is sitting in first place after completing round one and finishing part of round two at the 16th Annual Rod Myers Invitational on Monday at Duke University Golf Club.
TEAM
UNCG posted a 10-under-par (278) round one score, good for a five-stroke cushion ahead of second-place UNCW, who was five-under-par (283).
The Spartans were also ahead of The Southern Conference (SoCon) foes Wofford who was one-over-par (289) and Furman who was five-over par (293) following round one play.
Round two was suspended due to weather and with UNCG through holes 7-10, the Spartans are still pacing the team leaderboard with an 18-under-par (409).
UNCG is tied for first with a 3.98 average in par fours, tied for second with a 3.00 average in par threes and second with a 4.66 average in par fives.
INDIVIDUAL
Four of UNCG’s six golfers had an under-par first round, led by B.J. Boyce.
Jake Lewis is currently pacing the Spartans with a six-under-par (99) sitting tied for second, following a three-under-par (69) opening round performance. He is through eight holes of the second round.
Reece Sanders is second for the Spartans and is tied for fifth after climbing seven spots. He had a one-under-par (71) first round score and he is currently through seven holes with a four-under-par (25).
Kelvin Hernandez is tied for ninth out of 81 competitors. He fired a two-under-par (70) during round one and he has completed nine holes so far in round two for a four-under-par (105).
B.J. Boyce was tied for third following his round one four-under-par (68) scorecard but is currently tied for 13th place with a three-under par (109) after playing through 10 holes of round two.
Following a four-over-par (76), Will Guidry is tied for 63rd and has played eight holes of round two for a five-over-par (110) total.
Liam Percy, playing as an individual, is tied for 69th after a round one four-over-par (76) and is through six holes of round two.
UP NEXT
The tournament will now be a shortened 36-hole event due to weather, where the teams will complete round two starting at 9:30 a.m.
