UNCG’s Blythe Clark Named Women’s Soccer SoCon Defensive Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Blythe Clark of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s soccer team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
The freshman assisted the Spartans to back-to-back shutouts this week for six points towards conference play. UNCG now has four clean sheets on the season.
Clark aided in a 2-0 win over new SoCon member Tennessee Tech on Thursday with four saves, before tallying more two stops in a 3-0 victory over Mercer on Sunday, both at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Her effort on Sunday was instrumental in both earning UNCG its first win over the Bears since 2019 and keeping Mercer scoreless for just over 382 minutes since their last goal on Sept. 10 against South Florida.
Among SoCon rankings, Clark is first in minutes played (1080), second in shutouts (4) and fifth in total saves (43). She has played in 13 games this season, giving up 15 goals against for 1.25 goals against average.
“I’m beyond grateful to receive this award, it means so much to me,” said Clark. “But, it takes all of us and I’m so proud of the defensive effort that this group has put in.”
