ELON, N.C. – The Elon University football team will begin its first spring practice season under the leadership of new Phoenix head coach Curt Cignetti on Wednesday, March 29 on the Hunt and Tucker practice fields.
The spring will feature 15 practice dates, including three dates inside of Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix will first be in Rhodes Stadium on April 14, for a “Friday Night Lights” practice at 6:30 p.m. Elon will also practice on its game field for 2 p.m. scrimmages on Saturday, April 22 and Saturday, April 29, the later of which will be the program’s spring game.
Cignetti will lead the Phoenix after being introduced as Elon football’s 22nd head coach on January 2. Cignetti came to Elon following a six-year stint as the head coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he led the Crimson Hawks to a 53-17 (.757) record, including a 33-11 (.750) mark in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. IUP made three NCAA Division II Playoff appearances in 2012, 2015 and 2016 and finished this past season ranked No. 12 in the nation.
Cignetti has also spent time on the staffs at the University of Alabama (2007-10), North Carolina State University (2000-06), University of Pittsburgh (1993-99 and 1983-84), Temple University (1989-92), Rice University (1986-88) and Davidson College (1985).
