Women’s Tennis Named to ITA All-Academic Team; Six Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s tennis team has been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team, while six Spartans earned a spot on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, the association announced Monday.
Arina Babkova, Olivia Gallagher, Raegan Mitchell, Ella Olexa, McCollough Perry, and Luna Urso were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. To earn a spot on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
In addition, the entire squad was named an ITA All-Academic Team with a 3.55 GPA. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, the team grade point average must be 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes must have been listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
1,513 Division I women’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 234 women’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Eight teams from the Southern Conference (SoCon) were recognized for their work in the classroom with 38 individual student-athletes earning the ITA Scholar-Athlete award. UNCG, ETSU, Furman, and Wofford all had six student-athletes represented.
UNCG concluded the 2022-23 season at the SoCon Championship in Chattanooga, Tenn., by taking on No. 1 Furman. The Spartans fell to the Paladins, 0-4 and concluded the 2022-23 year with a 5-17 overall record. UNCG won 40 singles courts and 20 doubles courts compared to last year’s 22 total matches.
The team will compete this fall under the leadership of Head Coach Paul Thomson, who will be entering his third season at UNCG in the upcoming season.

Andrew Black, David Flisberg, John Gabelic, Harrison Gwynn, Hampus Johansson, Christopher Johns, Tymofiy Khrystyuk, Jay Montague, and Devon Moskowitz were named ITA Scholar- Athletes. To earn a spot on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
In addition, the entire squad was named an ITA All-Academic Team with a 3.80 GPA. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, the team grade point average must be 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes must have been listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
959 Division I men’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 162 men’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Six teams from the Southern Conference (SoCon) were recognized for their work in the classroom with 32 individual student-athletes earning the ITA Scholar-Athlete award. UNCG led the way nine student-athletes represented.
The Spartans finished the 2022-23 season during the Southern Conference Championships in a match against the top-seeded Chattanooga Mocs. The team will compete this fall under the leadership of Head Coach Jeff Trivette, who will be entering his 24th season at UNCG in the upcoming season.
