Greensboro Grasshoppers(50-45)
Asheville Tourists(40-53)

The Greensboro Grasshoppers got a key home run from Maikol Escotto in the fifth inning to cut the Tourists lead to 3-2, after the Hoppers had taken the early lead in the game, at 1-0 Greensboro, when Shawn Ross drove in Josiah Sightler in the second inning…Greensboro up 1-0, then the Tourists jumped on top 3-1 when they got three key doubles in the fifth inning…Jacob Melton, Zach Cole, and Ryan Wrobeleski all scored for Asheville, and it looked like the Tourists might be able to steal one, on this Wednesday afternoon…

But the Grasshoppers got that big Escotto HR, and then Termarr Johnson and Jack Brannigan both reached base in the bottom of the sixth inning with Walks, and shortly after they got the team going, newcomer Nick Cimillo stroked a grooved fastball to left field, and drove in both Johnson and Brannigan with two outs, and the Hoppers had the lead they needed to win this game…

Hopper broke on top 4-3, behind Cimillo, and that is just what the home team needed to win this game…Cimillo a Steak n Shake Player of the Game award winner, and we also salute Jack Carey and Yunior Thibo, who both addeed to the victory touch…Carey struck out four Asheville batters, while walking one, and he gave up 0 Tourist runs on just one hit, over his two and a-thirds innings of work out there on the Hoppers’ mound…Carey got the Hold, and then Yunior Thibo came in and eared the Save, while working two-thirds of an inning, and Thibo gave up no runs on no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts…Thibo faced the Asheville Tourists in the top of the ninth inning, with the based loaded, and there were two outs, and with the bases loaded and a one-run Hopper lead, and top it off, the count went to 3-2 on the Tourists’ #9 man John Garcia, and with the count full, and the bases loaded in a one-run ball game, Thibo struck out Garcia swinging, to the end the contest…What a way to end the ballgame…Some sort of drama there at the ending…

The Tourists got a super start from their pitcher Miguel Ulloloa, who worked 4 2/3’s innings, and he gave up two Hopper runs on four hits, but the big stuff from Ulloloa was his 11 strikeouts over his Wednesday stint…He struck out 3 Hoppers in the first, three more in the second, three more in the third, and then two more in the fourth inning..He was strong and must have hit his pitch count, because as soon as he gave up the home run to Escotto, Ulloloa was gone/done….Hoppers starter Joshua Loeschorn did good work in his three innigs, as he struck out four batters, and retired all nine of the Asheville batters he faced…Tourists getting nothing off of Loeschorn…The Hoppers’ Jaycob Deese struggled, but the team worked around it, and went on the get the win, with Carey and Thibo leading the way on the mound…

Ullola Fans Career-High 11; Tourists Lose by One
Asheville’s Ninth Inning Rally Came Up Short

from Doug Maurer, with www.milb.com/ashevilletourists:

GREENSBORO– The Asheville Tourists dropped another close game to the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Wednesday afternoon when they fell by a final score of 4-3. The Tourists had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth with two outs and appeared to have drawn a game-tying walk. The pitch in question was ruled a strike and the next pitch ended the game.

Miguel Ullola was Asheville’s starting pitcher and the right-hander put together a tremendous outing. Ullola went 4.2 innings, scattered four hits, walked one, and struck out a career-high 11. Greensboro managed to take a 1-0 lead early off Ullola but Asheville’s offense rallied for three runs in the fourth.

Jacob Melton, Zach Cole, and Ryan Wrobleski strung together consecutive hits while Rolando Espinosa added an RBI double later in the inning. The Tourists’ 3-1 lead lasted for a few innings. Greensboro hit a solo Home Run in the fifth and clubbed a two-run double in the sixth to go in front 4-3. Asheville’s offense was held to two hits over the final six innings.

Asheville has now dropped back-to-back games against Greensboro to start this week’s series by a total of three runs. When the Grasshoppers played at McCormick Field in May, the Tourists won all six games by two runs or less.
