Greensboro Grasshoppers 6, Asheville Tourists 3
WP:Po-Yu Chen(5-6)/LP:A.J. Blubaugh(4-3)/SV:Cy Nielson(10)

Hoppers-6--9-3
Tourists-3-3-0

Greensboro Grasshoppers(51-45)
Asheville Tourists(40-54)

Hoppers get just a great start from Po-Yu Chen, as he gives up a leadoff HR to the Asheville Tourists’ Jacob Melton and then Chen just flat out shut the Tourists down…Chen throws a one-hitter over his five innings with 0 BB’s and Chen had seven(7) big strikeouts…Chen was our first Steak n Shake Player of the Game for the night…Malcom Nunez earns his Steak n Shake Player of the Game honors with his bases-clearing, two-out double in the sixth inning…Nunez drives in three Hoppers, scoring Sammy Siani, Tres Gonzalez, and Jase Bowen…That smack was a key hit in this contest….Sammy Siani goes to the Steak n Shake Player of the Game table with his two-run, two-out double in the third inning…Nunez went 2-2/Double/2 BB’s/Run/3 RBI….Siani went 3-3/2 Doubles/BB/2 Runs/2 RBI…

The above game info tells most of the story of the game, but then you had Cy Nielson come in, as a key/important Hopper reliever from the Greensboro bullpen, and Nielson said Cy, Cy, Cy, and then Bye, Bye, Bye to the Asheville Tourists….When Nielson took to the hill, Asheville had loaded the bases, and it was Full of Tourists/FOT at FNB, in 2023, and Nielson shut down the Asheville Tourists, 1-2-3….Bases loaded, and Cy did not strike out any of the Tourists, but he got Pop Up to the catcher(Shawn Ross, and a very good find of the ball by Ross, in foul territory behind the plate, and not too far from the first base dugout) from Michael Sandle, then an infield fly rule pop up from John Garcia, and Nielson got Jacob Melton to ground out to the Hoppers second baseman, Termarr Johnson to end the game…Cy, Cy, Cy, Bye, Bye, Bye….

All of this action led to another Greensboro Grasshoppers victory over the Asheville Tourists…Hoppers now (3-0) vs. ASHE this week, and Greensboro is at (8-2) over their last ten(10) games…

Hopper hitters from Thursday night:Tres Gonzalez 1-4/BB/Run…Jase Bowen 1-3/Run…Bowen was hit in the hand by a Tourist pitch in the sixth inning, and he ended up leaving the game…Luke Brown 0-1…Josiah Slightler 2-4…Malcom Nunez 2-2/Double/BB/2 Runs/3 RBI…Termarr Johnson 0-3/BB/Run/SB…Jack Brannigan 0-4…Shawn Ross 0-3/BB…Sammy Siani 3-3/2 Doubles/BB/2 Runs/2 RBI…Maikol Escotto 1-4/RBI…

Melton Clubs Leadoff Home Run but T’s Offense Remains Quiet
Asheville Drops their Fourth Straight Away from Home

from Doug Maurer with www.milb.com/ashevilletourists:

GREENSBORO– The Asheville Tourists fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-3 on Thursday night. It is the fourth straight road loss for the Tourists; the offense has been held to three runs or less in all four games.

For the third straight game Asheville fought to the end and put together a great chance in the top of the ninth. The Tourists loaded the bases with no outs; however, the team was unable to cash in the big hit.

Greensboro, just like in Wednesday’s contest, used a trio of two-out hits to account for all of their runs. The deciding blow came in the sixth with a three-run double to left.

Jacob Melton led off the game with a massive Home Run to right. It was Asheville’s only hit over the first seven innings. Justin Williams hit a key double in the eighth that helped lead to a pair of runs and Tim Borden II’s leadoff single in the ninth were the Tourists only other hits in the game.

A.J. Blubaugh and Alex Santos II both pitched well for Asheville. Greensboro did well to take advantage the duo’s few mistakes. The Grasshoppers pulled out all the stops with seven different pitchers called into action. Greensboro also used a bunt single to set up the eventual game-winning rally in the sixth.

The Tourists and Grasshoppers are back at it on Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30pm ET.
