Tough Sunday for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, as they feel for the first time this week to the Asheville Tourists…Asheville posted two runs in the top of the third inning, on a two-run home run from Logan Cerney…The Tourists added two more runs in the the top of the seventh inning, after Doubles from Tommy Sacco II and Rolando Espinosa…The Grasshoppers were able to cut the A’ville lead to 2-1, when Luke Brown scored for the Hoppers in the bottom of the fifth inning…Tight ball game at that time, but that was as close as the Grasshoppers would come on this day, as the Tourists ran their advantage up to 4-1, and that was when Jack Brannigan decided to cut the A’ville lead in half, as Brannigan slapped long ball to left field, and as the baseball was leaving the yard, the score became 4-2 Tourists, and that is how the game turned out in the end…Asheville takes Game Six, of the Six-Game Series, but the Greensboro Grasshoppers claim the Week-Long Battle/Series, Five-Games-to-One….
Hoppers on the day…Sammy Siani 1-3/BB/RBI…Malcom Nunez 1-4…Termarr Johnson 1-4…Jack Brannigan 2-4/HR/Run/RBI…Luke Brown 2-4/Run…Maikol Escotto 1-4/Double…
Asheville top hitter:Logan Cerny 2-4/HR/2 RBI…
Not the best day of the week for the Hoppers’ pitching staff…Starter Thomas Harrington went just 3 2/3’s innings, giving up 2 Runs, on 3 Hits, with 2 BB’s/4 K’s/HR…Harrington was gone, after his pitch count reached 66…The Hoppers’ bullpen with Jack Carey had a rough Sunday, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, over 2 Innings, with 0 BB’s/1 K…Carey had much better stuff going for him earlier in the series…
Asheville got very solid work from their starting pitcher, Nolan Devos, and from their starter, turned reliever, Valente Bellozo…Devos worked 4 1/3 innings, giving up 0 Runs, on 2 Hopper hits, with 1 BB and 5 K’s…Last Tuesday’s Asheville starting pitcher, Valente Bellozo came out of the pen today, and he was stellar…Bellozo gave up one run, on four hits, with 0 BB’s/4 K’s and he gave up the late HR to the Grasshoppers Jack Brannigan…
This game had power-packed pitching from both Devos and Bellozo, from Asheville…Greensboro’s Jack Brannigan, was our Steak n Shake Player of the Game…He had his solo HR to left field in the ninth inning….Devos and Bellozo were the top two stars for the Tourists…
