Couple of Bryant’s highlights…
8:10 pm: With 4:26 in the first quarter, senior running back Malique Jones has an 11-yard touchdown run to give Northwest Guilford a 7-0 lead.
Northern had an early opportunity to score. With 7:45 in the first quarter, a deep pass on fourth down by sophomore Jaxon Kemp was just overthrown as junior Reggie King dove and stretched in the end zone, but couldn’t catch what could have been a 33-yard touchdown pass.
9:50 pm: Northern sophomore quarterback Jaxon Kemp hits junior Reggie King on a play action streak down the right side to reach the Northwest two-yard line. From there, McInnis ran it in to complete a two play, 52-yard drive. Northern leads 14-7 with 3:30 remaining.
9:55 pm: With 2:27 remaining, Northwest quarterback Tanner Ballou connects with freshman wide receiver Rakem Hammock for a 56-yard strike over the middle to tie the game at 14.
10:15 pm: Final: Northwest running back Malique Jones scores on a 10-yard run, the first play Northwest had the ball in overtime, to get a road win over Northern, 20-14. Northern possessed the ball first in the overtime period but was stopped on fourth down.
Hough Huskies still playing tough, as they knock off the West Charlotte Lions…from HS OT at www.wralsportsfan.com:
No. 13 Hough earned a crucial victory in Queen City Conference play over No. 14 West Charlotte at home on Friday night. It was the first loss of the season for West Charlotte, which made headlines with its 6-0 start to the season.
When the two current top contenders for the league title squared off in Cornelius, the Hough defense stole the show in a 23-7 win.
The teams are the favorites to represent the 4A and 3A portion of the league, respectively, but many thought this matchup would decide who gets to hang the actual banner.
In the end, Hough’s more efficient running game set the Huskies apart in a matchup of teams with similar strengths.
Hough’s 5-star Clemson commit at kicker Nolan Hauser opened scoring with a 50-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Hauser connected on a 27-yard attempt with 7:46 left in the first half to make it a 6-0 game.
