UNCG Woods Leads Women’s Soccer in 1-0 Win Against Furman

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women’s soccer team shut out The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Furman, 1-0 in a Sunday match-up at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After the Spartans had three shots at the Paladins’ goal, in the 35th minute Claire Esse passed the ball to find the feet of Caroline Woods at the top of the 18-yard box. Woods struck the ball straight into the back of the net for the Spartans to take the lead, 1-0.

The intensity picked up after the break, with Furman’s best shot at 77:07 when Helen Gutierrez had her shot punched away over the crossbar by goalkeeper Abby Buchholz. The two teams continued more back-and-forth play to finish the game with UNCG winning 1-0.

UNCG outshot Furman 12-7.
The Spartans had seven corners to the Paladins six corners.
Woods had her third goal of the season, the 11th of her career.
Esse collected her second assist of her career and of the season.
