SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s basketball forward Mikeal Brown-Jones has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league on Monday. This is his second-career honor from the Conference.

This is the second UNCG honor, as Keyshaun Langley earned the recognition on November 20 and Brown-Jones was recognized on November 27.

Brown-Jones led UNCG to a 73-67 win over The Citadel on January 17, before the Spartans took down Wofford, 82-59, on January 20, making the team 9-0 at home this season. UNCG has not begun a campaign with nine straight wins at home since the 2004-05 season.

Against The Citadel, the senior scored a career-high 39 points on 14-for-21 (.667) shooting, including going 3-for-4 (.750) behind the arc. Brown-Jones also went a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, grabbed four rebounds, had one assist, one steal, and one block. The North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native’s 39-point performance is the highest scoring output by any SoCon player this season, the fourth-best in program history and tied for the seventh-highest total by any player in the NCAA this season.

In the contest with Wofford, Brown-Jones logged his fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 29 points and 10 rebounds. He shot 8-for-12 (.667) from the field and 2-for-3 (.667) from 3-point range, along with going 11-for-12 (.917) from the free-throw line.

For the week, Brown-Jones averaged 34.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting 66.7 percent from the field, 71.4 percent from long distance and 91.7 percent from the foul line. In addition to his strong shooting, Brown-Jones played ideal basketball all-around as he logged 66 minutes of playing time, committing zero turnovers and having just two personal fouls in the two contests last week.

Nationally, Brown-Jones is 26th in points per game (20.1) and 35th in field goal percentage (58.5).

Among the SoCon, he is second in points per game (20.1), second in field goal percentage (.585), sixth in rebounds per game (7.5), eighth in blocked shots per game (1.0), and ninth in free throw percentage (.788).
