UNCG Police Department to Conduct Saturation Patrol to Enhance Traffic Safety

Increased Patrols Aimed at Reducing Speeding, Improving Seatbelt Use, and Promoting Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety to Protect Motorists and Pedestrians

Greensboro, NC – The UNCG Police Department is excited to announce it will conduct a saturation patrol in partnership with the Guilford County Traffic Safety Task Force and the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program. This initiative marks a significant step in traffic safety and is expected to reduce motor vehicle crashes on the roadways at UNC Greensboro and the local community.

On February 27, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., the UNCG Police Department, Greensboro Police Department, Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, High Point Police Department, North Carolina A&T Police Department, Gibsonville Police Department, Piedmont Triad International (PTI) Airport Police Department, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol will conduct a saturation patrol to determine compliance with motor vehicle code. The primary goal of this combined enforcement effort is to enhance traffic safety by enforcing motor vehicle laws, specifically by reducing speeding, improving seatbelt use, and promoting pedestrian and bicycle safety. Law enforcement officers will also engage students, staff, faculty, and visitors at pedestrian crossings to educate the public on traffic safety. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Forensic Test for Alcohol Branch will also display a Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) Mobile Unit to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.

“We look forward to collaborating with our local law enforcement partners to create a safer learning environment for our campus and the surrounding community,” said Christopher Jasso, Chief of Police at the UNCG Police Department.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis, there were 46,195 bicyclists injured and 1,105 bicyclist fatalities in 2022. Furthermore, 11,302 people killed in car crashes were not wearing seat belts. The national estimate for seat belt use during the day by adult front-seat passengers in 2023 was 91.9%. In 2022, there were 12,151 fatalities in speeding-related crashes – a decrease of 2.8% from 2021, when there were 12,498 fatalities.
