In the game we covered today, Northern Guilford and Western Alamance got going at 1:35pm, and the first batter of the game, Northern Guilford’s Jason Ellis reached on a ground-ball single to third, and with the next batter up for NG, Nanthanel Lorczak at the plate, Ellis gets his lead at first base, and the WA left-handed pitcher Jorge Banda threw on over to first to keep Ellis honest, and to make sure he didn’t get a lead and take off for a stolen base at second…Well as Banda makes his move to first base on the throw-over, his foot gets caught in mound turf there at the High Point Rockers’ stadium, and the Turf Comes Loose…The field crew got it back in what seemed to be good working order, but it/the mound turf came Loose again…Had never seem a game halted for a Turf Delay before, but I have now…
Northern Guilford scored seven runs in the 3rd inning, and when they added another run in the Top of the Fifth Inning, NG led WA, 10-0…NG got Ellis and Lorszak to score back in the first inning, and they had grabbed the early 2-0 advantage…Western Alamance found two runs in the fifth, and one more in the sixth inning, to make the final, 13-3 NG…Northern was primed to wrap this game up in Five Innings, but when the Nighthawks changed pitchers headed to the fifth, that is when WA went to work…
The WP for NG was Kevin Willoughby, while Jorge Banda took the loss for WA…At the top of the NG Nighthawks batting order, Jason Ellis went 3-3, with a BB, and a HBP, plus Ellis stole two bases and he scored two runs…And of his three hits, one of those was a Bunt…For NG Caleb Hinnant went 2-3/Double/Run/2 RBI…Riley Gladwwell was 1-3/BB/2 RBI/Run…Just a few of the highlight hitters for Northern Guilford…NG starter Kevin Willoughby worked four innings, allowing 0 Runs, on 1 hit, with 1 BB/5 Ks/HBP…
Three Triples in the game for Western Alamance, with two of them coming in the same inning…WA Triples for Frederick Harrelson, Copper Marks, and Gaven Davis…
