GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Grasshoppers edged out the Brooklyn Cyclones, 2-1, on Friday, July 25, at First National Bank Field. With the win, the Grasshoppers improved to 21-7 in the second half of the season, while the Cyclones dropped to 12-16. Greensboro outhit Brooklyn 8-5, as the Cyclones committed two errors to the Hoppers’ one.

Outfielder Will Taylor led Greensboro at the plate, going 2-for-3, while catcher Derek Berg followed with a 2-for-4 performance that included a double. Additional hits came from Titus Dumitru, Keiner Delgado, P.J. Hilson, and Jesus Castillo.

For the Cyclones, infielder Boston Baro paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Outfielder A.J. Ewing accounted for Brooklyn’s remaining hits, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Hung-Leng Chang started on the mound for Greensboro, striking out four and allowing two hits and one earned run over four innings. Connor Oliver earned the win in relief and improved to 3-2 on the season. Jack Carey recorded his third hold, while Michael Walsh notched his sixth save.

Will Watson took the loss for Brooklyn, falling to 0-3. He struck out eight over four innings, allowing six hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks.

MORE on the way from The LONG GONE Baseball Radio Network and from GreensboroSports.com…..
Those that stopped by the broadcast booth on Friday night, included Derek Berg’s parents and family from the Houston, Texas area, plus we saw John Swithardt, Heath Lineberry, an old friend from Western Guilford, plus Carl Woolard, and a lady who just stopped by to say hello…The LONG GONE Baseball Radio Network, is pulling them in….
We also had Antonio Graham join in with us on the Golden Corral Postgame Show…Happy Birthday #45 to Antonio this week…Plus we had Greensboro Grasshoppers Clubhouse Man Bob Perry stop by and sit with us, for a couple of innings…Good to see Bob, he does a great job, there with the Hoppers….

Keiner Delgado homered with one of his LONG GONE specials to right field in the bottom of the third inning, and that solo shot proved to be the Game-Winner, in the 2-1 contest that Greensboro Grasshoppers took, to go up 4-0 vs. the Brooklyn Cyclones, this week at First National Bank Field…Games have gone the Hoppers way, to the tune of 8-5 on Tuesday, 3-1 on Wednesday, 8-4 on Thursday, and now the 2-1 Friday finish…

Delgado earned his REMAX Revolution Player of the Game stripes, plus it was Titus Dumitru who got the Hoppers on the scoreboard for the first time on Friday, when singled and scored as the Hoppers second batter of the game…Will Taylor got a bunt single while looking for a Sacrifice, and when Brooklyn third baseman Boston Baro threw the ball away while going to first base, Titus walked the tight rope, and he came in to score the Hoppers first run of the contest….

So Dumitru scores in the first inning, and then Delgado gets the Game-Winner in the third, and after that the Greensboro Grasshoppers bullpen picked up the pace, and put Brooklyn in their place…Hoppers starter Hung-Leng Chang gave up the Cyclones only run of the game, as Chang got the call, and worked four innings on Friday…Then Chang turned it over to the bullpen, where WP Connor Oliver, Jack Carey(Hold) and Mike Walsh(Save) took care of the wash, and they kept it all clean, coming in from the pen on Friday night….

We know Delgado and Dumitru both had hits, because they scored the two Hopper runs, but the Grasshoppers also got two hits each from Will Taylor and Derek Berg….Also one hit per both P.J. Hilson and Jesus Castillo….Delgado’s HR was his 12th of the season, and his RBI total climbed to 46….Berg and Castillo had Doubles for the Grasshoppers…

So we hit the hitting pretty hard, and we also need to factor in the defense from the Greensboro team…Antonio Graham mentioned it on our postgame show, and we saw it loud and clear…Javier Rivas caught a liner at third base that put him in line for the REMAX Revolution Play of the Game…He also went down, stopped a ground ball, did a spin turn, and still had time to get the man/runner going to first base…We say Javier Rivas has a Super Ballistic Arm…He shoots that ball across the infield diamond, like a missile…Konnor Griffin had some fine defensive plays at shortstop too, back in Friday night’s Hopper victory…

We got our Inside the Game Details, and now let’s send out our other Game Details….
Game Attendance-6,315….My guess was 5,847 and Hoppers’ Clubhouse Man Bob Perry guessed, 5,900…
